Professor Twain
Tell us about your buddies, their experience and taste in cigars, that would help. If they are novice cigar smokers that is a different matter than if they are connoisseurs with lots of experience with the Habano leaf.
habanohal
If they are not seasoned cigar smokers, I would had out some cheaper ones. Like SP Non Plus, RG CE. I have learned that giveing what we would call our cigars of a lifetime to just anybody that doesnt really appreciate them, a waste.
BigSlick
I tend to agree with Hal. I bought a box of RyJ no2 tubos for situatuions like these. They have a great presentation being in a tube, smell great with the cedar lining and have a name that is well known with just about anybody. At the same time they aren't bad cigars, so if your friends do have some cigar experience they will appreciate the Habano. Hope this helps. I suggest that you do what my mentor in the fine art of the habano leaf suggested--get a sampler pack with 4 or 5 each of a variety of cigars. One or 2 isn't enough to tell whether you really like a cigar. Don't think that you have to try everything at once. Also, if possible get some aged singles. IMHO, here is a good starter sampler pack. Looking at First Lady's aged singles, I would suggest you get 4 or 5 each of: San Cristobal La Punta – KMM SEP 03 Montecristo 3 – PUL MAY 01 then from regular stock: BOLIVAR PETIT CORONAS PARTAGAS SERIE D NO.4 RAMON ALLONES SPECIALLY SELECTED VEGAS ROBAINA FAMOSOS TRINIDAD REYES Be sure that you have enough humidor space, that you keep them at proper humidity, and don't smoke them right off the truck, wait until they have rested in your humidor for 30 days. There are mixed opinions about Pinars. (All of them being negative) At other boards you would be dodging tomatoes by now. :-D I have smoked a Pinar and they didn't taste bad IMHO. Could'nt tell you if they are really aged cuban tobacco or just a marketing ploy. I am interested to read what others post. We're you taken? I guess it depends on how much you spent and if you enjoy the cigars or not. TD

anacostiakat
The funniest thing about the pre-embargo cubans is that they don't ever seem to run out of them. Do they?
habanohal
Try the H. Upmann Corona Major. Nice tube for presentation, also it still is a great tasteing Habano. At about $105 a box or so.

Pinar... the story goes something like this. A tobacco importer in Florida imported a large shipment of unrolled cuban tobacco shortly before the embargo. He soon faced bankruptcy. His assets were tied up and the tabacco was stored (properly so the story goes)... He dies before finances are cleared up. His children fight over the assets, tobacco included and everything goes to probate. The Judge for the probate (supposedly) was a cigar smoker and ordered the tobacco to be stored properly until the everything was settled. This was the mid 80's. In the late 90's somebody sold the tobacco, now nearly forty years old, to an entrepreneur. He began having cuban rollers create the Pinar cigars which are supposed to last until about 2007 or so. The tobacco is supposedly from 1956, 1958 and 1960. This is from my recollection of different internet articles I've read. Don't know if it's true, but I've smoked a few P3000 Super Coronas (5.75"x60) Pinar P3000 is supposed to be 100% Cuban. P2000 is supposedly 70% Cuban 30% Ecuadorian. The first two or three tasted really good and reminded me of the few cubans I had smoked by that time. I've had a few since that don't taste nearly as good as the first few. These first few are the reason I looked into a source for modern era, certifiable habanos. Enter FOH and CC. Never looked back:-)
DrAlejandro
If they're newbies to CC's Id definitely go with something cheap and mild since you dont want them turning green and its pointless to blow big bucks on guys who cant tell the difference anyways... Id go with something like a fonseca cosacos or #1 or maybe even a H Upmann coronas major. Not stellar smokes by any means but damn good smokes at an even better price. Cant beat that :-)
