Well Armed Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 I just looked through a domestic catalog of cigars. I forget the company. But, almost EVERY cigar in the catalog was over a 50 ring gauge. WTF? I mean there were cigars that were like 66 and crazy **** like that. There were funny self pics from customers (no transvestite Kens but still funny) and almost every one showed some chump with a toilet paper roll in his mouth. I just don't get it. And....there were lots of funny bashings on Cubans. **** like: Everybody knows real Cubans are lame now and quality sucks and all the growers left and took the seeds with them and commies have ruined their cigar business and, oh, by the way, try these AWESOME Cubano 2000's made from Cuban seed and grown in Ecuador - only $25 for 50!
Tampa1257 Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 Should I begin painting my sign that The World Is Coming to an END"? If people believe that by having a Big Ring cigar that they have a "Super Sized" stick with more flavor, they frankly (and I borrow this statement from a good friend) Don't Know their RASS from their ASS, Tasteless Volado building the bulk of those "Fatty" cigars must be an Edipus Complex of the Market they are trying to capture. Who wants to lay odds when the first 80 ring gauge is going to hit the Market? After all, the Industry is supporting this "Fatter is Better" concept. If it sells to these Idiots, they are going to continue to make it. I swear the friggen Idiots are going to KILL the best cigars offered as well as the Industry being filled with nothing but pure crap because of these ideas and brainstorms they come up with. Smart people need to answer with their wallets by letting them know that this is NOT the direction that True Cigar Smokers want the Industry to head toward.

idesign Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 I've got a box of MCE1's en route to combat the fat cigar trend......;-)
jgros001 Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 I still get a bunch of these catalogs and they make great bathroom reading. My favorite special of the past month was a box of hoyos and a free jean jacket. Seriously though, I need to stock up on the small gauge cigars because I worry in two years whether I'll be able to buy any. Party connisseurs/ cohiba coronas especiales / etc I love em.
genevapics Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 That's good news for those of us that like the smaller ring gauges. Hey, if the "IN CROWD" wants to smoke the fatties, who am I to argue with them? I will go on enjoying the Laguito No.1 size until the day I die. To each his/her own.
El Presidente Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 !LOL! It is a dream of mine to have my own custom line of Cuban Laguito no 1. The strength and espresso notes of the Partagas Serie Connoisseur No 1, the smoothness and creaminess of the Fundadores, the richness and honey notes of the Lancero. I will continue to work towards it ;-)

DrAlejandro Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 LOL this is a funny thread, I think I read the exact same catalouge yesterday ;-) Cant blame the NC retailers though, they have an inferior product and are dealing with people who've never in their lives smoked a cuban and can be told whatever they want to hear... Ignorance is bliss I guess
Islesfan Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Everything in the American market is bigger, (supossedly better, NOT), just take a look at the American auto market. There are so many cigar lines I won't even try due to the fact that there isn't a smoke with less than a 52 RG in the lineup. Bigger is definately not always better; give me a corona anyday.
puffman Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 As Dr. puffman says, "Maybe sometimes a cigar ISN'T just a cigar!" Way too weird for me!!
Cal-Duck Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 That would be the Texas mentality. "It's real BIG so it's gotta be real good! Now lets go **** some cows." :-| I'll take a Corona Gorda any day. CD
olotti Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Good, let all the fools buy those sticks and believe all the cuban bashing. In the end it leaves more for us. ;-)
cigardawg Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 I've done my part for smaller ring gauges. The last five boxes that I have purchased have had ring gauges of 36, 43, 38, 35, and 34. And no, that are not the measurements of her bust, waist, hips, right thigh, left thigh.:-P
Mel Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Timey thread, I just tossed the Thompson catalog in the trash and have decided to cancell my membership. I used to buy from them and enjoyed their cigars. Things do change don't they? I still like the 52 gague and smaller, any larger is to large but the smaller stuff is nice too. I like variation but have settled on the fact that the Cuban tobacco is the best. If it's thin it better draw that's my only demand.
