Davidoff No. 2 (Non Habanos)

My apologies if this isn't allowed in the Habanos section.

However i decided to share my thoughts on this smoke.

Beautiful light wrapper, very nice construction, i think its called a pig-tail wrapper...

Burned beautifully, even outisde. Draw was perfect.

The first taste was mild, sweet, and sadly, overrated. I got this cigar at a "big smoke" in Toronto, so I normally wouldn't buy this as they are a little outside my price range. I would rather smoke the 'Private stock', as they taste similar, maybe the burn and construction isn't as good, but the 'value' is there.

I may be getting my terms mixed up, however these are my thoughts. I"m normally used to 'nutty' and 'earthy' cigars. This cigar was very different. Through reflection i decided this cigar was 'woody', with hints of 'spice' and a distant taste of leather.

I normally take black french-pressed coffee with my cigars to complement them, however I've just discovered the pearls of cognac. So I decided to sip this with my smoke. Very good complement to cigars. I think I need to have cognac's alone to better understand the subtleties and aromas so that I can detect how the tobacco and cognac are interacting.

Anyways, bottomline... much better dominican cigars for the price. Aesthetics, construction, burn and draw were flawless, however flavour was lacking.

I hope this made sense!

thanks for reading.:-)

Nice review :-)

I would rather roll and smoke dried straw than most recent production Davidoff I have tried.

Past glories and packaging is still the strongest part of their appeal.

I'm not all that familiar with Davidoff, other than Habanos Davidoffs, but I recently got two boxes of the Diademas and two boxes of the Diademas Finas. I've smoked three of the larger Diademas over the last week, and I must say, they were VERY VERY good. Smooth and buttery, with an amazing aroma. I may smoke a few more and let the rest sleep for a while. :-)

thanks!

I wasn't sure what they normally taste like and I couldn't find any other reviews, so I hoped mine was consistent.

Too bad they don't make them like they used to, i would have loved to try one.

I've heard of 'Diademas', but never tried, I think i'll give it a shot!

Try the millenium blends. A bit more kick and on the full bodied side.

^ I'll keep that in mind. I hope the milennium blend sticks around and isn't just stuff from 2000....

Ken: agreeing with Rob?

I like the Millennium Blend Robusto and Lonsdale. I just don't like the price points. I have smoke the Diademas Fina as well...wonderful smoke. If one also includes Avo in the Davidoff line, I like the Avo 22, LE5, and Avo 80 as well.

I'm with the Prez...most of the Davidoff line(s) just does not have enough flavor for me to enjoy it.
