El Presidente Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: True story Umaga Strikes Rugby Teammate With Handbag in Christchurch Bar May 29 (Bloomberg) -- Former New Zealand rugby captain Tana Umaga struck teammate Chris Masoe with a handbag in a Christchurch bar yesterday morning, prompting witness reports that Masoe then burst into tears. The 106-kilogram (234-pound) Masoe had been involved in an altercation with a male patron of the Jolly Poacher pub after tripping on the man's foot, Wellington Hurricanes Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Holmes said in a statement. ``Umaga intervened and took Masoe aside and subsequently struck Masoe with a bag that belonged to a woman who was with the local resident,'' Holmes said in the statement. ``Regrettably, this action broke a cell phone that was contained in the bag.'' The pair were drinking and playing pool after the Hurricanes' Super 14 final defeat to Christchurch the night before. The incident took place at about 7 a.m., the Christchurch-based Press newspaper said. A 22-year-old woman who owned the handbag said Masoe received two ``pretty hard'' blows to the side of the head with her handbag and started crying, the Press reported, without giving her identity. An investigation by the Hurricanes and the New Zealand Rugby Football Union will be concluded by tomorrow, Holmes said. ``Both players apologize for any actions that may have caused offense to be taken and they regret that the incident occurred,'' the Hurricanes CEO added in the statement. A Christchurch man, 24, who didn't want to be identified, said Masoe tripped over his feet and punched him, prompting Umaga to strike out with the handbag, the Press reported. Masoe, 27, was named in the All Blacks squad yesterday and has played twice for New Zealand's national team. The 33-year-old Umaga played in 74 Tests -- the fourth-most by an All Black -- and quit the team in January, saying he wanted to spend more time with his family.
