SeanGAR Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 I smoked a pair of these in the past week and decided to share my thoughts. First things you notice is the imposing stature. These are monsters. I've smoked a few of the Cuaba salmones but these just seem bigger. They look great, nice wrappers, seem to be very well rolled. Lighting up I was immediately hit with lots of flavor. Of the two, one burned pretty much perfect ... but the other developed absolutely the ugliest burn I have ever seen. I'll review the good one and comment on the bad. I mentioned the flavors. I don't have the box codes so I don't now how old they are ... but they were absolutely powerhouses. I was just kicked in the pants both times ... and that has never happened before with any cigar. Flavors changed quite a bit as the cigar got smaller. I don't think I had a more flavorful cigar ever. It took me 2 hours to burn these bad boys down to the last inch and they were finger licking good. The one off burn was absolutely strange .. wrapper started peeling a bit and the exposed binder started expanding until it was significantly thicker than the part with the intact wrapper. Expanded ... that along with the peeling wrapper made it look like an exploded cigar. Thing was, the flavor stayed great all the while and I couldn't manage to fix the burn with a lighter since the cigar is so thick. I ended up smoking the cigar past the peeled wrapper and got this one to the last inch as well. Since they were stored under similar conditions I can't explain this ... but despite the problem I'll try to pick up a few more of these guys. Great cigars ... I wish I had a box to age.
El Presidente Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 Nice review Sean How would you describe the flavours?
Tampa1257 Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 I have been called a Partagás *****, and have smoked many of these, I would be interested in reading your description of the flavors as well.
SeanGAR Posted May 3, 2006 Author Posted May 3, 2006 » Nice review Sean » » How would you describe the flavours? I'm not really good at describing flavor in details and I don't smoke enough Partagas to be able to compare to something else ... actually I can't really compare the flavors to anything else as I haven't had anything that flavorful before with the same power. And the flavor profile changed at the front, middle and end .... I found more of the nuts, creamy, some floral component I liked and some strong spice (baking spice, not pepper) in the middle. Maybe I need to smoke another one soon and take notes! :-D
