Cohiba Robusto

I've got to say that the CoRo is my favorite cigar. It seems I've had a CoRo in my hand during some of the best moments of my life. Like the night after I got engaged to my wife and lit up a CoRo after our celebratory dinner. So when I smoke a CoRo I really have high expectations. For me this is not an everyday smoke, but one I typically choose at certain special moments. That being said:

Despite my better judgement I decided to try a (relatively) young one on just an ordinary day during the work week. No special event or circumstance to celebrate. Just a visit with a cigar I hold dear. Box code is MKO DIC 04. The construction is fantastic. I always enjoy the dense, consistent roll of these cigars. The wrapper is a smooth, medium brown (tan) but not visibly oily on the wrapper surface.

Prelight nose is rich tobacco and leather. And the prelight taste is spice. On first light I could taste all of the elements that I so enjoy about the CoRo. Flavours of Spice, Leather, Tobacco and Earth... all very distinct, but lacking the complexity I typically enjoy in this vitola. The power of this cigar was not subtle as with some of the other sticks I've tried. Each draw was strong and this particular one got me a bit heady. It wasn't harsh at all (althought a few draws were slightly acrid/tannic), but the flavors and power seemed to be all very distinct showing potential complexity that just hasn't quite matured into the delicious beast it will one day become. I closed the box up and buried it in my cabinet. I'm looking forward to another try in a year.

Half of the CoRos I have smoked have been less than impressive. Still I can never set them away to get older. Though I am always on the hunt for a box that has a few years on it

I'd say she's ready to get-er-done. I love the young stuff. I have some aging and some fresh stuff for smoking.

This is the only Cohiba that eludes me. I've smoked a few(all recent vintage) and found them to be just regular smokes. I prefer a Siglo III or a Cohiba CE.However, I was gifted a 97 CoRo and hopefully I will enjoy it this time. To the SOB who slipped this into my Halliburton, payback is a *****!

I just smoked one of the best CoRo's I've ever had this morning. Not sure of the age since it was a gift. "Rich" is the one word that describes the experience, and not just the price tag (especially this one)......:-P

I have to admit that it is difficult for me to resist the CoRo's I have deep down in my coolerdor for aging. Every once in a while, I have the urge to re-arrange the coolerdor and inevitably--I end up taking one out.

I smoked my first CoRo last sunday, damn what a cigar. It was from an 04 box, i know, relatively young for a Cohiba but i couldnt wait to light it up. Great flavor, definately got that cocoa flavor right of the bat, and the flavors continued to change throughout the smoke. Wish i had taken more flavor notes while smoking, but i was just too enthralled with this cigar to do anything else but sit and enjoy it.

It's a great cigar, but to me, not the one to have with many years of age. After a while they loose a lot of their greatness.

What do you guys think is the age range the CoRos show there best? El Prez?

I think they start to come into there own starting at 3 years, and that may be on the low side. 5 or 6 years is better.
