Taino Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 I have this problem when I go out for the weekend or day out fishing, hunting or whatever and that is what cigars do I bring and how many? I always try to pack things one day ahead, and what I smoke depends on my mood, activities and buddies. So almost always my solution ends up being bringing a bit of everything in a small tupperware I use for these occasions… the prize I have to pay: volume of the solution. How do you choose your cigars to bring when you go out?
habanohal Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 When it comes to chooseing cigars, I am like a woman saying " I Have nothing to wear" LOL I have so much , but still say I have nothing to smoke :-D It goes on tastes. If I put together my golf smokes the night before, the next morning I usually end up changeing them. Differant tastes.
Havana Joe Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 Since I only smoke at my house, when I'm in the mood for a smoke I just take a look in the cooler and grab which ever smoke I feel like at the time. Although, If I had to plan ahead for the next day, I can see where that would be tough..
idesign Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 I'm taking a golf vacation to Bandon Dunes in June and I'm already starting to think about what to take. :-D

I do pretty much the same thing you do. I take many more than I would ever smoke...never know what I will be in the mood for. For example, went away for 2 days this past weekend. I took two travel humidors full of cigars. Ended up only smoking three sticks.

Now if he were a woman, he'd have said: I take many more than I would ever wear...never know what I will be in the mood for. For example, went away for 2 days this past weekend. I took two travel bags full of clothes. Ended up only wearing three outfits. What's all this nonsense about Mars and Venus?
Tave1225 Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 These are always good problems to have. What cigar, What cigar?:-) :-D
Ken Gargett Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 my problem is that i never know how much time i'll have on the shorter trips, or even if i'll have a chance to have a cigar, or what i'll feel like. so i try and bring a range. that means a heap of the guys i regularly run into on these trips assume i'll be bringing the cigars and if i don't have enough for all, look at me as though i have commited a crime. i'm sure most of the guys think i get them for free or they are only 50c each. not sure what i am going to do about it.
Black Plague Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 My solution to the same conundrum you have will seen be solved once I get my Herf-a-Dor in the mail. It's a 15-count travel humidor, very similar in design to the Cigar Caddies you might see sold. That way, I can bring a good assortment on a short trip and anticipate my changing mood.
El Presidente Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 I have a 15 ount Travel Humidor which is always packed and ready to go. I may fiddle with it during the week by adding a few or taking a few out....but it lives in my LandRover.
skid11 Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 i'm sure most of the guys think i get them for free or they are only 50c each. Ken I thought that not only did you get them all for free but the czar actually paid you for reviewing each cigar !! ;-)
Lorax429 Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 I never know what I might be int he mood for when it comes time to light up so I always end up taking a selection with me. Even if I know I am only going to be able to smoke one or two cigars, I'm taking anywhere between 4 to 8 cigars with me. And then when it comes time to smoke one, I usually spend at least a minute or two mulling over my choices to select just the right smoke for my mood. It's a sickness I think, but one I don't seem to mind having.
tattoodad13 Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 I usually pack two or three of my go to smokes and two or three of my been a while smokes.:-) Does the trick for me.

I sit and stare at the humidors for quite a while in mental agony. Last year I took a fishing trip to Alaska can you imagine the horror of predicting what cigars I would want for a week, five thousand miles from my stash? I calculated six cigars per day for seven days=42(+ten for good measure) an d I took about 55. It worked out great. Oh I also had two boxes of NCs and two lighters sent directly from Thompson. I had my buddy pick up a can of fluid.:-D
Colt45 Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 I pretty much echo the responses already given. Even if I'm just out for the day, and know I'll only smoke one cigar, I'll bring three to five. I choose different sizes, and take it from there. » I have a 15 ount Travel Humidor which is always packed and ready to go. Rob, this has been discussed here before, but do your cigars ever seem a bit over humidified from sitting "long term" in a caddie, especially in your climate?

The Master Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 I pack my traveldor based on how many cigars a day I will be smoking(normal day is 5-7 cigars), and which sizes and brands I want with me. I'll pick some petite coronas, lonsdales, corona gordas, churchills, torpedos and dalias. Then I will grab which brands I want in relation to the size of the cigar. I always bring way more cigars than I will ever smoke, this way if I run into another cigar guy, I will have plenty to share.
Stuck in Alaska Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 I have two traveldors. One holds between 5-8 cigars, the other can hold between 12-15. I pack them both full of different sizes and marques and let the situation dictate what I'll smoke. However, I don't regularly smoke large cigars (DCs, Churchills, etc) so I usually pack 2-3 of those since I figure if I'm on vacation, I might have some extra spare time to enjoy these larger ones.

Colt45 Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 » to paraphrase george, i am gargett, king of the idiots'. heavy is the head that wears the crown.
bgoodz Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 I'm always thinking about what I want to smoke next, be it day, week or weekend. Sometimes when I go to sleep I think about what smokes are in the next rotation and which ones I want to try. I'm starting to lean back to all habanos with the exception of Maduros and bomb smokes. I haven't taken a vacation in 6 years other than around the house. But I've given it some thought and I think I need to get a traveldor.

I fill my otterbox, with a fairly wide selection, of marques, and vitolas. You never really know what you will be in the mood for. On a recent fishing trip, I threw in a Cohiba Sublime, thinking that I probably wouldn't smoke it. But it was perfect after a great day of fishing, which included catching a 9lbs 10 oz largemouth.:-D Always throw in a celebratory cigar, even if you don't think you will smoke it. Today might just be a banner day, and you will need it.:-) Dave (A.K.A. Homebrew)
