connoiseur29 Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 Box: JWI NOV 05 Paired with: Chivas 18 year old Wrapper, milk chocolate and toothy, not very oily The prelight aroma on this was pleasant tobacco, it was a beautiful fragrant aroma. I sat down on my porch as the rain and winds and lightning passed around and on lighting this smoke, got a slight hint of mint. The burn began and slowly notes of a bitter cocoa began to find my palate. It was a cocoa that found itself intermixed with notes of sweet, dark cherry. As time went on and I got to about the 1/3 mark, there was a steady stream of bittersweet chocolate and cherry hints. Every so often, hints of roasted almond and hazelnut touched my palate. Then, the cocoa, sweet tobacco and occasional cherry notes returned. At about the halfway point, I felt a tingling in my lips and a sudden rush of jalapenos hit my palate and lingered for about 10 minutes or so, before returning to cocoa. A hint of spice and sweet cocoa followed before turning to a floral/vegetal taste that persisted for only a short while. The cocoa rebounded at about the 2/3 mark and continued with the roasted hazelnut taste. The burn was razor sharp the whole while, even, cool and steady. The draw was not too tight, but not quite as loose as I would rate the best smokes. Mounds of smoke rose from this cigar and as I progressed to the nub, it was bitter chocolate spice (like baking chocolate) and hints of jalapenos and cinnamon mixed in. The rain and lightning picked up and my smoke had just about ended. It was time for me to seek shelter. But what a great smoke, pleasant aftertaste and well, we all know that these are great smokes. This was just an opportunity to evaluate current production RASS. They are still RASS, time after time. I rate it about a 90. Age as we know, makes these cigars wonderful.
Lemon Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 Very nice review! I love the RASS and hopefully will have a chance and afford buying a box of these in the future.
El Presidente Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 To my taste....the best young Habanos of all! Great review!

I love these smokes, very spicy and sweet taste. Out of the bunch I have smoked I have not had a bad one. I recently gifted one to a client of mine who is a big NC cigar smoker. I asked him if he ever tried a Cuban. He said he has tried Cohibas, in my mind I was thinking he probably smoked a fake. I told him to come back the next day to my office. I gave him one of my RASS robustos and he went on his way.So he comes back about a week later and tells me "Damn that was one hellava smoke!" I just smiled:-)
dogbreath Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Yes, they even get better with age. Thanks for the review! :-)
tacmedic Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 the RASS is in my top 3 favorites, and I try to always keep them on hand...
Loki Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 JWI OCT 05 Simply marvelous. I've smoked a couple and my experience is very similiar to yours. BTW great review. The rest must go to sleep for a couple of years unless I buy another box.

I would love to, but gotta keep the peace at home. I just dropped a lotta coin on a new Harley. A man's gotta set priorities.;-)
Smokiethebear Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 I was pleasently suprised by an '05 RASS this past weekend. Rich and full in body, it sparked my interest in a box as a part of my next order.
greenpimp Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Nice review. All of mine are '02 or older, haven't tried any recent production. Hafta rectify that apparently....
Smokin Bulldog Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Recent production Purchased in a group buy I just took the time to spark one of these on the front porch while I was watching the thunderstorm role past the house. I was wowed by this cigar. It had a wonderful sweet prelight aroma. Burn was perfect the draw, however, was a little easy. But that did not take away from the cigar. Incredible amounts of smoke were produced. I certainly picked up hints of sweet spice and creamy coffee. towards the end of the cigar I was glad I had eaten before smoking. But to sum it up in one word, "WOW". On a side note I did discover that cigars and fruit tea DO NOT go together.:-D
grateful1 Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 I had my first RASS a couple of weeks ago. The next day I traded for some...I'm hooked! Nice review!
jadawin Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 I also have a box of these from oct 05 and they are smoking really nicely. I definately got some of the same flavors you guys mentioned while smoking these. Construction is great, and i think ive only had a problem with maybe 1 cigar outta the whole box. I was surprised how well these smoked being this young.
