This was my first RyJ #4 and my review is based on a single stick, so take it for what it's worth.

Construction: Light brown wrapper, fairly rough looking, with quite a bit of veining and uneven edges. Solid feel and a smooth, easy draw.

Prelight: Nice barnyard aroma, but not much flavor on the prelight draw. Appears to be a mild blend.

Burn: Easy draw and average smoke production. Burned straight and even. Lasted about 75 minutes.

Flavor: This one is on the medium side of mild-to-medium bodied. Crisp tobacco flavors, rather one-dimensional, with some peppery overtones (on the tongue). Medium strength. Nothing exciting or noteworthy about the flavor of this stick.

Finish: This cigar left a pretty bad aftertaste. Immediately after smoking, I would have said it was a crisp finish. But it soured after an hour or so and the bad aftertaste lasted well into the next morning.

Conclusion: This is a decent cigar, but nothing to write home about. I have 4 more to try, but I think I will wait a while before smoking another. Not as good as many other readily available cigars.

Thanks for posting, jkr. I think that most of us who smoke and enjoy this cigar are left wondering about your experience. When "ripe" and properly humidified, the No. 4 is a mild-medium, but very tasty smoke, brimming with cedar, leather, and the sweet "fruity" notes that are uniquely Romeo. An '01 is certainly well-aged.

Did you allow it to properly humidify (3-4 weeks) before smoking? I sure hope that your subsequent No. 4's are a better experience.

This is a cigar that I have always struggled with, but the RyJ marca with few exceptions is not one of my favorites. This cigar is always a bit flat to my palate (please note that my palate is quite average at best). I have tried many, from cabs and dress boxes and just can't warm up to them.

No, I probably didn't give it enough time to properly humidify. I will wait a month and try again.

Thanks for the review :ok:

My experience has always been a fruity slightly sweet robusto of medium body.

I suspect that at somepoint since 01 it has dried out denying it of it's essential oils. Or it could just be a dud :lol2:
