price - monte - no2\'s v edmundo

ignoring the 'no discussion re price' rule for a moment, i am used to monte 2's being the pricier of the two - rob certainly has it that way. and that seems the way god intended.

yet in havana on this latest trip (granted not a lot in it), the edmundo's are more expensive than the 2's.

anyone else come across this?

Recently saw about a ten buck difference on 15 counts with the Edmundo the higher of the two.

i have seen some minor fluctuations between the two, which i wrote off to the respective popular opinion changes between the two. specifically, many (including myself) have commented on a growing inconsistency noted in monte2 flavor during the past 2-3 years. on the otherhand, the first release edmundo was good but not overwhelming, and picked up an early rap that, while not bad, was not great either. recent production edmundos and (in my experience) earlier edmundos put back for a rest have been great, showing a nice complexity and depth that was not there before. additionally, recent new releases in other marques may show a nod to the bigger vitolas, with the edmundo riding the wave.

now how does this affect the price difference? hell, i don't know. monte2 has to outproduce and outsell edmundo by 8 to 1, at least. even an insider track that edmundos are getting nice should not counterbalance the worldwide consumption for the monte2, one of the biggest sellers.

just my guessing with what i have experienced. have you found out more, ken?

Cost differential to distributors is marginal.

Monte 2 retail demand is 20 times that of Edmundo. The rest of the world has worked this out and priced accordingly.

I was going to say the same thing. Monte #2 is really the #1 cigar in the world. Edmundo is sort of new still, which I still havent had a good one yet. I want to buy a box, but all my tasteings of them have been less than mediocore at best.

How are recent Monte 2s?

I have a couple boxes of 03s that looks and smell wonderful that I have laid down.

Edmundos can be great. Its just getting the good ones that's the roll of the dice.

I've only seen the M2 priced less than the Edmundo when the M2 was discounted/on sale.

Honestly, if you can ignore the taper, you have basically the same size cigar post cut and the edmundo may be more tobacco by weight. I am not talking taste, ect, just size. Also, I suppose you have to ignore the often talked about, skilled, more experienced(higher paid?) roller making the torp vs the parejo.

If I look at from a weight perspective, I suppose I can see the rationale for the flip flop/similarity in pricing. The San Cristobal La Punta/La Fuerza is another example.
