A review on the Diplomaticos #2:

Box Date: KMM Sep04

Stored at 69% RH

This cigar had a well constructed, dark chocolate wrapper, oily and not overfilled. The prelight aroma was classic havana, smooth and rich. The first draw was nothing but sheer espresso beans, rich, powerful and strong. I sipped some Graham's six grapes port with this. As it continued to burn, the smoke became more intense and filled the room. It received a number of compliments from the bar clientele. They really enjoyed the aroma, as did I. The espresso flavor gradually weakened a bit and took on some hints of cinnamon and spice. It was heaven by now, about a third through the stick. It started taking on hints of spicy bittersweet cocoa. As I hit the halfway point, hints of cedar surfaced and then were overtaken by cocoa and the espresso flavors. It was much tamer by now. Espresso and chocolate flavors alternated with spice in between them. The last third of the stick hit espresso/coffee flavors in full stride. And as the espresso flavor toned down, I came to the point of no return...... (Do I nub it, or do I let it die peacefully?). Well, I decided to continue and was surprised with stronger cocoa flavors and spice with only mild undertones of coffee. The finish was rich and powerful. It left a wonderful taste on my palate. The smoke burned evenly throughout, appropriately, and not too hot. Only two segments of ash fell during the duration of the smoke, and it was otherwise a wonderful smoke. These have aged quite well.

The port was a bit too sweet for the smoke, but paired acceptably. It is truly a first class smoke and has its place in my rotation. I ended this smoke quite satisfied and relaxed. The nicotine content was not overpowering and appropriate. It is about a 90, I feel. I think its peak will be about 92-93 with further aging. I would love to know any other experiences you have had.

VERY nice review. I like this brand quite a bit, but I sure don't see alot of reviews on it because it always gets overshadowed by the Monte 2, H. Upmann 2, and the PSP2.

Very nice review!! Given I am partial to parejos I do not venture to the Monte or Dip #2 very often... for those of you who do, do you feel the Dip and Monte have the same flavor profile?

I find the Dip #2 different from the Monte #2 but I think age makes a great difference between the two. However IMHO, I have to say I like the Upmann #2 much better than the Monte #2 anyway.

I'd rather have the Dip #2 over the Upmann unless it"s the 02 Tang release. I have not been smoking much of the Monte od late so wont compare to the others.

Ahh Yes the Diplomatico #2 one of my all time favorites. I had my first one in 1997 and it was beginning of a long relationship.

I've got a box of FJN ENE 05s that are simply devine. After reading your great review I just might have to have one when I venture out

to the pub tonite. If so I will add to this post with my review.

An often overlooked stick due to the popularity of the other #2s.

Lets keep it that way.:ok:

I have really become entranced with the Diplo 2. They are some of the finest rolled cigars I've seen and I've got some dark-chocolate looking ones too. The taste, although quite different from the Monte and Upman 2 is just dynamite.

I've raised some eyebrows gifting this puppy.

Nice review.
