Shooter Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Okay, okay. NOW I can relax. This much revered cigar has left me with less-than positive experiences in the past based on a ten-pack I received in a trade. Suffice to say that I am now firmly planted on the "Sir Winnie Bandwagon" of appreciation for this "gem." I drove to Charlottesville with a friend for a lazy day and some lunch. We ate at the Boar's Head Inn and found our way outside on a veranda after lunch for a smoke. The weather was perfect and on a sunny balcony overlooking a pond and trees with soft music being piped-out to the deck---I lit the first of my new box of Sir Winstons from this May '03 box. Fresh from the Post Office, it was still just incredible. I can't tell you how relieved I am to finally "get-it" about this cigar. My previous Sir Winstons (also '03) were not of this quality--that's all I can say. The draw on this one was perfect---not too loose--not too tight--just right. The flavors were just mesmorizing and I didn't want it to end! It never got unpleasant and I smoked it way down. Afterwards, it left a great taste in my mouth. I am thrilled to know there's 24 more where that came from! A big thumb's up for "Sir Winnie!"
shrink Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 A big thumb's up for "Sir Winnie!" OK, OK... you can put your big thumb down now. Glad you had a good one. Let 'em age.
Phailure Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Nice, I've heard that these are amazing with a few years on them. Like shrink said, let 'em age.

DocRKS Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 . If you think they're gems at 3 yrs. wait until they have » 8-10 on them. The thought of enjoying a SW with 10yrs age on them....... It's the stuff that dreams are made of......
sleeper Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 My fav churchill when aged appropriately. I have some from late '97 that are gorgeous!
CigarZen Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 » My fav churchill when aged appropriately. I have some from late '97 that » are gorgeous! Agreed -- they do need to age to show their best. And when they do they are, imho, some of the best from Cuba. I had over the years sampled singles from the local LCDH and just never thought they were worth the extra cash. Too mild. But did so again with one aged about 5 yrs and its a different experience, much MUCH more flavorful. So explain this -- is it the blend or the thick cedar packaging? (or both?)
