Wiley Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Last summer, I really got off on reading James Michener's Iberia with a fine Cuban and a glass of port. Reading about sunny Spain just seemed to be the perfect fit for me. Anyone else like a good book with their habanos?
Loki Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Sure who doesn't. I've been rereading some Piers Anthony books. Incarnations of Immortality series. But most of the time I read periodicals with fine habanos.
Colt45 Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 » Anyone else like a good book with their habanos? Lately, some of the Nero Wolfe mysteries.
t.schleis Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I know that it is not a book, and I know that it is not Cuban, but the DVD that Fuente put out around xmas which detailed their lives and trials, and development of the OPUS X is facinating. (It would have been fun to read if it was in book form.) I still fancy an OPUS X every now and then but they are so damn expensive except for a couple connections that they outprice the best cubans and certainly are not a match. (No-I have no affiliation with the Fuentes.) I look forward to seeing what books others like. Tom Schleis
habanohal Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I am not one for reading. Thats why I like MRN Encyclopedia. Lotza pics. Probably the only reading that is really interesting to me would be the penthouse forum stories.
cigardawg Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I spend a lot of time reading the Min Ron Nee book while smoking cigars. I also read my Cigar Aficionado, Smoke, and Wine Enthusiast magazines. If I grab a book, it is usually in the Robert Jordan, Wheel of Time series or Terry Goodkind's the Sword of Truth series.

sleeper Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 No books here except for the occasional professional one. The nicotine provides balance for an otherwise anesthetic experience. I do like to read the WSJ and the cigar periodicals while smoking, as mentioned above.
El Presidente Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 One of my favourite Habanos pastimes. A great book, a bottle of wine...on the verandah overlooking the ponderosa with my feet up. Currently reading a raunchy Spanish Novel.....no-one in my family understands a word of Spanish and hence knows what I am reading ;-)
guilow Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Nothing better that sitting down with cuban cigar whilst reading MRN.
genevapics Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 » Nothing better that sitting down with cuban cigar whilst reading MRN. Once the weather breaks here in the northeast this is exactly what I'll be doing.

I like to watch a good "mans" movie in the gentlmans retreat. No chick flick allowed.
jgros001 Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 » Nothing better that sitting down with cuban cigar whilst reading MRN. Yep, MRN...but Perleman's pocket guide to Havanas is also a great reference book.

You know, I agree about Perleman's guide...once you get past the errors and mistakes. I don't know who the editors are, but gawd they do a horrible job. The Perleman's guide to NCs is ever worse.:-(
Havana Joe Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Most of the time I'm reading school text books while smoking, but the other times I'll read my Cigar Aficionado Magazine and look through all of the Cigar catalogs that I get in the mail.
PJ_CEONAD_CC Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Love the Pics in a 1997 edition of 'Cigars of the World'. Thumb thru it every few months or so.
Taino Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 nop, not reading and smoking, maybe signs in the street or girls shirts, but nothing else...
josie67 Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 My 2 favorite cigar books are the MRN bible and Havana Cigars by Gerard Pere. Havana Cigars used to be available at Barnes and Noble, but I haven't seen it in years. :-(
Duckguy Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 For a book to read while smoking....well is the FoH Forum considered a book? Typically I read Atlantic Monthly cover to cover and much of it while smoking. I also read a lot of nonfiction, particuarlly nerdy science stuff. MRN when it comes to books on cigars.
seamus Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Ditto on MRN. The book never gets old and reads great with a smoke.
hazleem Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 MRN... just so much info in there... but the book is huge... wish it was easier to carry around :-(
