Best known cigar???

What do you think the best known cigar would be on an entire world basis? What's the one smoke everyone knows?

That's a tough question but I do remember that when I began smoking cigars three years back or so the RyJ Churchill was a cigar that was mentioned in almost every discussion I had with friends about their favourite cigars.

For a specific cigar, I'd agree with genevapics, the Montecristo No.2. For a brand, it's gotta be Cohiba.

Among regular cigar smokers, I'd believe Cohiba (Robusto) ranks most prominent. Or even the Monte 2 among the old-school.

But the name I hear most from occasional and non-smokers is Romeo y Julieta. Monte 4s come a close second.

Cohiba as a brand came up the most for me when I asked everyone at work (I am the only cigar people out of the group of 27).

What, no Quintero Nationales? :-) Nice info El Prez. I am surprised that the Cohiba, Montecristo, Partagas & Trinidad (Laguito No.1 size) were not mentioned. Doesn't surprise me though, that list is a very tasty list. Interesting to see Romeo y Julieta & Trinidad left off the list also. Again, thanks for sharing.

I really doubt whether a non-smoker would recognise the name cohiba, let alone espledido.

I'd say monte #4, or as a brand rather than a specific cigar, ryj.

Two ways about it..

For me, probably 99% of people that come up to me say "is that a Cohiba?"

They probably dont smoke cigars and just assume.

Then you have to look at what is the best known cigar to cigar smokers...well I'd say a Monte 4.

As montecristo is the most sold brand I would think is that one. Probably the N°4. The more you sold it, more people knows it.

I would probably say Cohiba...no particular size, though. Even non-smokers recognize the Cohiba brand name.

best know cigar for smokers and non smokers . Still say Cohiba Esplendidos. It is the #1 faked cigar and the #1 cigar that all tourist or lay people ask about, no matter where they are.

For cigar smokers, it would be the Monte #2

In my experience here in the states its Cohiba. Esplendido to be exact, I've seen and heard more about this cigar and more fakes than any other habanos product. I've seen esplendidos in cello, in glass top, cello in glass top...its just sad.

I know the stats support the MC2/MC4 as being the best known.

From personal experience, when my cigar smoking acquaintences find out that I smoke Cubans it seems the first thing they ask is "Montecristo"? I think that marca is the most well known.
