I just noticed while walking through our local shopping centre that all tobacco retailers have covered up all cigar products !!! They have installed closed in doors so you can't see the products even the counter has a black cover so you can't view the productas underneath. What's more they have refused (and rightly so) to post ghastly images of mouth cancers, but they don't know how long they can hold out as hefty fines will apply if they don't conform......

The anti tobacco lobby strikes again.................... If the government is to be be fair about this type of policy then (IMHO) they should post images of mangled bloody bodies on the sides of motor cars and motor bikes, battered persons on beer bottles, liver cancer shots on all alcohol products, obese immobile sad looking individuals holding colour photos of bowel cancers on all fast food wrappers............ Get my drift I could go on but.................... sorry guys I've had my rant.

I would like to see the day that cigars are not lumped in the same category with mass produced chemically filled cigarettes. As a small minority it's damn near impossible to get our opinion across.

I was over Forty when I took up cigar smoking, it was my free choice, I'm not an addict. I find smoking a finely hand crafted cigar one of the most relaxing pleasures I know and I will continue regardless............. Viva Le FOH revolution brothers.

I agree with your opinion but with NSW currently moving towards no smoking of any kind in any building / enclosed space, it is hard to see if there are any exception for Cigar Smokers.

Pretty soon, it will only be outdoor smoking or just at home.

» Wow! I always thought the Aussies had much more of a "live and let live

» Was I wrong?

I think we all need to move to South America where they don't give a damn about much at all! except partying hard!

» Jeeze..they actually have to hide cigars and post pics of mouth

» cancer???this is required by law??

Yep!................ That's the new crazy laws in place in Queensland Australia at the moment and I'm pretty sure that most other states in Australia will be the same or heading that way.

Get this ........You are also not allowed to smoke within 4m of an entrance to a public building. These laws are targetted at cigarette smokers but unfortunately cigar smokers get lumped into this category.

I suppose most of us smoke at home anyway but it peeves me off when the fine and noble art of cigar smoking gets un founded bad press ............... and theirs nothing you can do about it.

Am I ranting again ?? Check out this article

I think by June of 2007 everything will be smoke free? On one hand I like it, because I won't be breathing in cig smoke for 7-8 hours when I'm at a pub or club, but I'm really going to miss being able to smoke in the city :-(

I think even in Australia, they are putting forward a petition to the people to actually ban smoking in your own car? I don't know how well that will go down because of privacy concerns, but I am sure that the anti-smoking nazi's wil get their way until we won't be able to smoke unless we have a plastic bag on our head!

Guys

The tobacco nazi's (that's what we call them) are going to have a total ban in all public places, cars and no displays of tobacco products will be allow.......utter crap.

The posters and stickers that they want us to put on boxes etc. are absolutely disgusting but the boxes going overseas will not have to have them on - I can spare you guys the horro. The thing that annoys me is that they don't do the same for drinking, poker machines (otherwise know as pokies) which have a worse effect on families lives - try working in a establishment with these machines ..... not pretty

It is only only going to get worse because the stupid do gooders are getting a say and people are listening to them

Only last year so idiot (I am being generous) wanted warnings on Coffee products (yes that's right - COFFEE) - the lady can out with some crap that it was worse than cocaine and needed warning labels but thank God she was laughed at  What is the world coming too ???

At least the Brisbane boys can rest assured that our annual State of Origin dinners are still on and we will be organising more events..... other wise what is the use of owning your own Restaurant :-D

I have had my vent as well

Good on yer First Lady :-D I totally agree with you. The thing that amazes me is the power base behind these anti tobacco groups, they have the ear of the politians and the resources to fund huge Campaigns. .....................where will the industry be in 10 years time ??

I like Filliphy's Idea of personal space plastic head bags. And for some of us with heads that look like melons we can have tinted bags !!:-D

In the meantime the RASS I got the other day are superb.

I read an article in the SMH or SH a month or two ago about a guy in tassy who was trying to organise a political smokers party to try and fight the laws. From best memory he handed out around 600 forms to smokers that they would sign and return to him. He needed around 200 to form the party. He received 3 back from the 600 he gave out :surprised::confused:
