JohnS Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Premium Cigar Imports Down Slightly In First Quarter Honduras overtakes Dominican Republic May 18, 2026 - By David Savona The Cigar Association of America has just released three months of data on handmade, premium cigar imports, and according to their findings, shipments are not only down slightly, but Honduras has moved into the No. 2 spot. The CAA says it’s the first time that Honduras has shipped more premium cigars than the Dominican Republic. In the first quarter, the United States imported 90.9 million premium cigars, a modest decline of three percent compared to the first quarter of 2025. But the more surprising finding was the growth of Honduras, which was the sole country showing a gain. It shipped 17.2 million premium, handmade cigars to the United States in the first quarter, up 12 percent from the 15.3 million shipped in the first quarter of last year.
