Dothan cigar manufacturing facility to close

By Ty Storey - Published: Mar. 26, 2026

The closure of the Swedish Match Dothan Factory will eliminate around 54 area jobs.

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - A cigar manufacturing facility in Dothan is set to close its doors, the company behind it announced Wednesday.

Philip Morris International U.S. (PMI U.S.), the parent company of Swedish Match, said the decision to close their Columbia Highway factory came as the result of their “need to maintain a laser-sharp focus on our business priority: offering reduced‑risk, FDA‑authorized smoke‑free options to legal-aged adult nicotine users in America to help them move away from combustible cigarettes. "

“The decision to close our manufacturing operations in Dothan reflects our focus on operating efficiently and sustainably across all aspects of our business and on accelerating the growth of our smoke-free business in America,” said Peter Luongo, Managing Director, Cigars, PMI U.S. “This change does not diminish the pride we have in the work done in Dothan. The dedication, craftsmanship, and teamwork of our colleagues here have had a meaningful impact on our business.”

The closure of the Swedish Match Dothan Factory will eliminate around 54 area jobs, with 20 employees being kept on at this time to “support ongoing business needs” before the facility is fully shuttered, the company said in a statement.

An official date of closure was not revealed by PMI U.S.
