JohnS Posted March 26 Posted March 26 Katana: Reimagining Cigar Accessories With Japanese Craft March 25, 2026 - Press Release As global cigar culture continues to evolve, accessories have moved beyond mere functional tools to become extensions of aesthetics, personal ritual, and individual style. Katana, a cigar accessory brand originating from Japan and part of the Nobdesigns family, brings a new form of expression to this industry through a systematic approach to materials, craftsmanship, and design language. Katana’s creations are developed around three core dimensions: tradition, modernity, and functionality. The Cutter: For its cigar cutters, Katana utilizes high-carbon steel, a traditional material with deep historical roots in Japanese blades. Valued for its sharpness, structural stability, and highly controllable cutting performance, this material dictates the design. Rather than replicating traditional forms, Katana has built a new design logic based on performance. The design language of the Katana cutter doesn’t originate from its exterior appearance, but from research into physical variables—including weight distribution, center of gravity, leverage, and blade opening angles. The ultimate objective is singular: to ensure a stable, clean, and predictable cutting experience across different grip styles. Consequently, Katana cutters cannot be replicated through standardized mass production. Each piece requires approximately three months to complete. During forging, the temperature tolerance is strict—limited to roughly ±5°C. Each cutter exhibits subtle differences in dimension, contour, and detailing. Katana does not seek to eliminate these differences; the brand’s focus is not on industrial visual uniformity, but on consistency in cutting performance. The Ashtray: Katana selected Japanese cast iron as the foundational material. Known for its weight and stability, traditional cast iron is nevertheless susceptible to oxidation and rust. By refining treatment methods, Katana achieved a surface that preserves the original tactile quality of cast iron while resisting marks, aging, and visual distortion. The Brand: As part of the established brand Nob Designs, Katana accumulated ten years of material research and user feedback before entering the international market. Now entering the international stage, Katana offers the global cigar industry a restrained, rational option rooted in Japanese craftsmanship. JDoughty Posted March 26 Posted March 26 Yeah but can I use it to commit seppuku when I mess up on Bond Roberts and bid $10,000 instead of $100? 1 3
Havanaaddict Posted March 26 Posted March 26 $600 to $1180 for the cutter and $599 for the ashtray. 😳 1 1
