I remember the lid covered in shag but not the seat. But that could be because I'm too old to remember.

Flashback to my grandfather’s house. Had the shag lid cover but the seat was a plastic covered foam cushiony deal. You could hear the air hissing from it when you sat down. Why anyone ever thought that this was a good idea I will never know.

That’s my recollection too. With a wooden seat variant as well.
