Popular Post cigaraholic Posted February 22 Popular Post Posted February 22 Of the thousands and thousands of cigars I’ve smoked there are only a handful that I remember the first time I smoked a particular cigar. But a Vigia in a tube is one of them. It was on my first trip to London about 11 years ago. I had my first day all to myself, so after breakfast I hopped on the underground and headed for JJ Fox. I had the address but they don’t mean much on St James St, they’re not in mathematical order like in the states. Davidoff was easy to find so I popped in there, I sure as hell wasn’t going to stick my head in the and ask where JJ Fox was. Besides I can’t go into a cigar store and not buy a cigar or two. Going into a cigar store and getting to pick out cigars it’s a real treat for me. Started up a nice chat with a young man named Eddie and we headed to the humidor. I thought I should try and find something I’ve never smoked, I grabbed a tubed Vigia plus a couple of others. On the way out the door I asked Eddy where JJ Fox was. The hotel where I was staying had a large patio where every evening I enjoyed a cigar with a coffee and cognac. I was surprised how dark the wrapper was on the Vigia, looked like an EL wrapper. A gentleman from Scotland came over and chatted with me, he’d spent time in the states and was a big baseball fan, I had a few baseball stories for him. It was lovely talking to him but I could only understand about every third word. Now all those Scottish direction jokes make sense. I really enjoyed the cigar, it was like a chocolate Cohiba, probably from the wrapper. Normally I stay away from short fat cigars, the last third is usually just too hot for me. But I did enjoy that cigar and I’m a sucker for a sale, which is the only time I buy tubed cigars. Before Cigarmagedon I grabbed a bunch of Vigia 15 packs, it was basically 2 for the price of 1. The good ole days. This cigar has a typical gorgeous Trinidad colorado wrapper and is nicely filled at 13g. The cold draw is citrus and cedar with the perfect amount of resistance. Fist puffs are sweet rich pastry that turns into cookie dough with macadamia nuts. It may be short and fat, but goddammit it tastes good. Body is a little under medium, burn is perfect. A little coffee with cream comes in and a cedar finish that’s a little tannic. In the middle it’s light caramel, coffee and that cedar finish. It finishes a little over medium body and it’s a maple bar donut with cedar, but not tannic anymore. It was a delicious cigar, especially watching the USA hockey game, but I could have done without the cedar. I have smoked Vigia from a box and I prefer them, I don’t need the cedar, the one I smoked in London was fantastic. I don’t ever remember smoking a tubed cigar that showed this much cedar in it, looks like I have a little repackaging to do. 6
