JohnS Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Romeo y Julieta Amantes, Short Churchills Reserva Cosecha 2019 Coming to Switzerland This Month February 5, 2026 - Patrick Lagreid Later this month, a pair of eagerly anticipated new Cuban-made Romeo y Julieta cigars will be arriving at Swiss cigar shops. The Romeo y Julieta Short Churchills Reserva Cosecha 2019 has been on the radar since Habanos S.A. showed it off in February 2024. It is part of what could be considered the Cuban cigar company’s flagship collection of cigars. Like other Gran Reserva and Reserva releases, this is a special, aged version of a regular production cigar. In this case, it’s based on the Romeo y Julieta Short Churchills Reserva, a 4 7/8 x 50 robusto. For the Reserva version all the tobacco comes from the 2019 crop grown in the Vuelta Abajo region of Pinar del Río, located on the western tip of the island. Habanos S.A. says that the tobacco is aged for three years, then the cigars are aged for much longer than most other releases. The cigars also wear a special black and silver band that indicates they are part of the Reserva series. While there will be 5,000 boxes of 20 cigars released, Habanos S.A. has also produced 5,000 three-count gift boxes, which will be the boxes that go to retailers. In Switzerland, each gift box is priced at CHF 534 ($687.04), which works out to just over $229 per cigar. There is no word as to when the 20-count boxes will be available. Also coming this month is the Romeo y Julieta Amantes, which was previewed at the XXV Festival del Habano in February 2025. The Amantes measures 6 inches (153mm) x 53, a size known as the Sobresalientes vitola in the Cuban portfolio. It has been used for several limited edition cigars, including the Por Larrañaga Sobresalientes and the Romeo y Julieta Capuletos, a 2016 Edición Limitada. A press release from Intertabak AG, the distributor of Habanos S.A. products in Switzerland, said that “the vitola combines tradition with excellent craftsmanship. It offers medium strength and the classic Romeo y Julieta aroma. It is ideal for experienced aficionados and newcomers alike.” The cigar comes dressed with unique bands, as the primary band features the number 150 in the middle, which is a nod to the 150th anniversary of the Romeo y Julieta brand, which happened in 2025. The cigar also wears a unique band around its foot that bears the Amantes name. Pricing is set at CHF 372 ($478.64) per box of five cigars, which works out to just over $95 per cigar. There are also plans for the cigars to be offered in 20-count boxes, but a release date has not yet been announced. Both the Amantes and Short Churchill Reserva will be available at Swiss La Casa del Habano stores on Feb. 17, and at Habanos Specialist retailers on Feb. 24. It is expected that both cigars will be available in other markets in the not-too-distant future, but a release schedule has not yet been announced. Images courtesy of Habanos S.A./Intertabak AG.
