Refilled the reservoir, cleaned the main fan with a brush. Turned it on and the fans spun, then stopped. Readout flickers on/off constantly.  Fans don't kick in at all.

I can provide zero input as I am an electronic gumby.

However, good mate "Wazza" / Warren is a genius in this field (it's his profession). He is a deck regular each Friday. If no solution comes on this thread between now and Friday, I will run it past him and post from the deck. :ok:

I found this. I don’t know if you’ve already tried it...

To fix a Hydra humidifier that has stopped working, perform a hard reset by unplugging the unit, holding the power button, and waiting at least 120 seconds before plugging it back in. Common causes include a malfunctioning hygrometer, mineral buildup on the sensors, or a failed water pump, requiring cleaning with white vinegar and verifying water levels.

After the hard reset suggested above, I'd check the contacts on the ribbon cable and the pins in the hydra are clean and free of corrosion. I remember they get finicky after a while in humid environments. Then, test the transformer with a multimeter to rule out that out.

Did that hard reset. Didn't work. But...unplugging the expansion fans did. I'll do some googling around that. Kinda sucks but the main unit isn't fried. So that's good. Thanks everyone.

The web is filled with stuff!

If your Hydra humidifier works after unplugging the expansion fans, it may indicate an issue with those fans or their connection. Here are some potential causes and solutions:

Fan Malfunction

  • The expansion fans might be faulty or blocked, preventing proper airflow. Inspect and clean them to ensure they are functioning correctly.

Electrical Issues

  • Check the wiring and connections to the fans. Loose or damaged wires can cause the humidifier to malfunction. Ensure everything is securely connected.

Power Supply Problems

  • The humidifier may not be receiving adequate power when the fans are connected. Test the outlet and consider using a different power source.

Reset the Unit

  • Sometimes, performing a hard reset can resolve issues. Unplug the unit, wait for a few minutes, and then plug it back in with the fans connected to see if it resolves the problem.

For more detailed troubleshooting, guides on fixing humidifiers can be found in resources discussing common humidifier problems and specific issues with Hydra models.
