From the Reyes and Coloniales to the specialty releases, I don't think they put a foot wrong. The blending is exquisite, the construction...well it is as good as CC generally gets, no better no worse. However if you enjoy that milk coffee bakery profile richness, any Trinidad is hard to beat. Do you remember your first rested Fundadores? Your first Reyes or Vigia, Topes, any? To me they are special cigars. Then came the Cigarmageddon and the insane 200-300% "ish" price increases. I remember when the first notifications of the price increases came through and I thought it to be a misprint. More fool me! Trinidad went from a daily/regular to a special occasion cigar for many. Sales died internationally particularly with the Reyes and Coloniales. The Fundadores was the only one of the line that held its numbers albeit production was small. The global relaunch occurred and at the time I wondered if Habanos could rekindle, reinvigorate, reposition the marque. Coming on three years now and the answer is mixed. In terms of global sales the needle has indeed moved in the right direction for Trinidad. Larger formats have indeed regained sales momentum and specialties sell very well. On the back of that global marketing relaunch effort, a new market has discovered Trinidad. Habanos was hoping for that as they largely burnt their old market. Reyes and Coloniales can still be found in almost every Habanos store on the globe. There is little love at the price points requested and expensive Petit Coronas/Coronas have little love even among the new buyers. They are often sitting next to Cohiba Siglo 1/II/III. I am going to fire up a Coloniales now in memory of the good times! Smoke them if you've got them! After the price explosion, they were no longer appealing, as they got the same treatment Cohiba did, for seemingly no reason in particular. I have a handful of various Trini left, and they’ll serve me well whenever I get around to burning them. 1
