Specifically, we are talking about chikungunya fever, a viral natural focal infection caused by the chikungunya virus (CHIKV). Vaccination is recommended before traveling to Cuba. The disease is currently incurable.

In addition to Chikungunya, Zika and Dengue are on the rise.  Rotting garbage in the streets along with frequent blackouts are causing an increase in mosquito population which infect humans with the viruses.  Residents are having to open their windows due to the blackouts which cause an increase in the mosquito invasion into their residences which causes the increased transmission of the virus. Horrible situation.
