This week, Arturo Fuente is shipping the new Don Carlos 90 Años, a cigar with two wrappers and a unique story.

Upon launch, the Arturo Fuente Don Carlos 90 Años is debuting in a lone 5 3/4 x 47 robusto that starts life like any other Don Carlos cigar made by the company: Dominican fillers are combined inside a Dominican binder and then covered by a Cameroon wrapper, the same blend as a standard Don Carlos. The cigars then go to the Fuente aging rooms for one year and are then sent back to the rolling floor, where a corojo-seed wrapper grown on the Chateau de la Fuente farm in the Dominican Republic is placed on top of the Cameroon wrapper. The cigars then go back to the aging room for one more year before they are banded, boxed and sold.

The Don Carlos 90 Años has an MSRP of $13 per cigar and it is offered in boxes of 90.

It is being made in honor of the late Carlos Fuente Sr., who passed away in 2016 at the age of 81, meaning he would have turned 90 this year. Carlos “Carlito” Fuente Jr., son of Fuente Sr. and the head of the Fuente family’s cigar business, told halfwheel that this concept came to him a few years ago, though it’s also a nod to history.

The original Don Carlos line debuted in 1976, made at the Arturo Fuente factory in Nicaragua. Those cigars used Nicaraguan wrappers, but the factory was burned down in 1978 and the Fuente family left Nicaragua for the Dominican Republic, where the line is still made today, but with a Cameroon wrapper.

While the cigars began shipping to stores this week, some stores received the cigars last as part of events hosted by José Blanco.

Wish the Las Vegas Casa Fuente store didn’t get forced to close.

$13...how dare they sell a cigar under $50. 🤣

They really missed a chance to sell it for $90 a stick. Shame.
