But everyone is sick of having paid subscriptions for more and more stuff - you can’t even buy Microsoft Word as a one-time product now.

WestJet airlines is charging for reclining seats!

I have a 2025 GM car that has the hybrid system with both Android Automotive and CarPlay/Android Auto. I use Android Automotive 99% of the time. My only concern is the hardware running AA - I usually go through 3-4 phones per car and I don’t know how well the computer in the car will work running apps 5+ years in the future.

Took mine in twice last month to figure out a parasitic draw. The computer and error checker have no idea. The automatic locks were on the fritz with the fob, so they replaced that. Two weeks later, the car battery died overnight with a new battery. Decided to just get a kill switch and cut off the battery every night instead of playing "what to replace next".

I was actually thinking last night, if they made a new model car with the older mechanics like a big circular air filter on the engine block, no computer and no accessories except a dial radio, I'd buy that car model.

Maybe I was a Luddite in a past life.

Those days are long gone. On some cars, if the locks breaks, you'll have to change the whole door panel. Who knows maybe in the future, you'll not be able to purchase a car but to have it via a monthly subscription.
