Guillermo Leon, Draper 126th Aniversario

The wrapper of this stick is a beautiful peanut butter shade of brown, a few veins but barely any tooth. The label around the foot reads “W. Curtis Draper, 126th Aniversario.”

According to Halfwheel, we’re looking at an Ecuadorian Habano wrap, over Cameroon and Dominican Corojo binder, with a blend of Brazil, DR, Peru, and Nicaragua filler. This might be the most international cigar I’ve ever smoked. Some Six Nations Rugby going on!

Aroma is barnyard, damp hay, graham cracker, while cold draw is mild coffee and peanut shell. That draw has just a little bit of give, very nice out of the drybox. The light-up is exquisite, full of cream, walnuts, and maple syrup. Going on, there is a fantastic nutty vibe including everything from macadamia to candied pecans. Medium-roast coffee underneath. The finish is a little tannic, maybe some stone fruit starting to flow in. There is also some roasted marshmallow and juicy spice, a little like jalapeño jelly. The finish still carries that peanut shell I tasted on the cold draw, detracting a little bit in its bitterness, but not enough to cause concern. Eventually that fades and the finish is delectable agave, or dark honey. All the flavors are right up my alley, but this is a subtle cigar. This would not be one I want to smoke if the weather is overly hot or cold, or in a busy lounge, and maybe even not while holding conversation. Some of these great flavors would be easy to miss, and I’m really hoping they amp up further in.

This seems to be a little more finicky than some skinnies, as a couple touch-ups are required early on. Luckily, gentle touches to the torch and no detraction from the great flavor. Heading towards the second third, sandalwood becomes a prominent flavor, still with with nuttiness and a mildly spicy honey.

The second third continues with that sandalwood, but I’m now getting smoked almonds, and even a little citrus crème. Coffee still, underneath it all. Also, still experiencing the roasty edges of toasted marshmallow. I’m thinking @Çnote probably liked this one a lot. Halfway point I get just a moment of bitterness, which quickly resolves itself into a nice plum skin. Oak smoke, maybe with just a little umami.

Going into the last act, the draw tightens up noticeably, but the flavor also gets a boost. Now there is some thick, tasty molasses, graham crumbs, and apricot brandy. Earthy vibes too, not quite forest floor but dark roasted nuts and leather. Baking spices all over the place, and a very creamy finish.

Getting closer to the band, basically all molasses and dark roasted nuts. Wish there was still some baking spice, but that is mostly absent now. Ends on a nice dark cocoa and coffee vibe. Excellent smoke for those patient enough to enjoy the development, and not distracted while enjoying it, at a great value!

toasted marshmallow

Yeah. I was totally distracted as well. My penance will be to buy a box, and anything else they have made for the house laying around.
