Popular Post TheFez Posted August 28, 2025 Popular Post Posted August 28, 2025 Been back and forth on this for a while, finally pulled the trigger on the Mon3800a. Thanks @Socrates your post helped me to make my decision and gave me a lot of other valuable info. Got it delivered less than a week after ordering direct (was already in the states). Plugging it in tomorrow, gonna let it season til after the weekend, and Monday morning loading it up! So excited 😊 9
Socrates Posted August 28, 2025 Posted August 28, 2025 That is a thing of beauty 😎 Congrats and enjoy your new 3800A!! 1

TheFez Posted August 28, 2025 Author Posted August 28, 2025 @Socrates sorry for the bother, did you follow their instructions of wiping the shelves with distilled water or you just let it roll?
Socrates Posted August 28, 2025 Posted August 28, 2025 No bother at al! I did not wet the shelves at all. But I did take a clean cloth and just wiped down all the wood to get any factory dust off the wood. Some did come off. Then I set my unit to 70F and 70%RH and let it season empty for 10 days. There is a lot of wood in that humidor and (regardless of what Raching says) did not want to take the chance of dry wood sucking any moisture from my boxes. It was a painful wait, lol... 2

Dwamon Posted August 29, 2025 Posted August 29, 2025 Bought the same a few months ago. After trying a few temperature variations, I’ve settled in on close to the PigFish variation of 70F/62RH. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 3
WestCoastSmokin Posted February 15 Posted February 15 I just bought a Raching c230A. I let it season for 24 hours, do you think that is enough? Or should I pull my boxes out and let it season for a few more days?
gormag38 Posted February 17 Posted February 17 Well @TheFez how is the unit working out for you? Photos of it loaded up???
yuppie Posted February 17 Posted February 17 I'm noticing my MON5800A is always dryer up top than down below. I wish it would even out!
Socrates Posted February 20 Posted February 20 My MON2800A does the same thing on the 1st (top) and 2nd shelf. I keep mine set at 70F and 64%RH. Here is a snapshot of readings I have using SensorPush sensors that are inside a box on each shelf. (I don't have one on the 4th shelf.) 1

I have the yohtron 448L. Very similar to what you have. I have had mine a year now and I also live in a dryer climate. Mine does not consume water. Rather I change it and clean twice a month. It's important not to over fill those water filter drawers. Mine will hold a large amount but they recommended to me to only fill to minimum line and that helped me tremendously. Be patient, and rather than watching what the humidor numbers say on the door, throw another separate thermometer/hygrometer in on the shelves and take the average. I do not rely on the factory thermometer/hygrometer. It took around 6 months before my large humidor started to equalize. Even after multiple seasonings. Another thing to note is I clean the filter and tray with hydrogen peroxide to prevent mold. Hope this helps. 1

I filled mine to the recommended line. I have a Raching though so it may be different recommendations. I must live in a dryer area as well. Yes I’m actually calibrating two more Hygrometers right now as we speak.

Thanks, yes I was curious because Raching recommends changing the filter out every 3 months I believe. And I was thinking that I may have to change the filter before running out of water lol. I’m probably in a dryer area then as well.
Socrates Posted February 23 Posted February 23 I live in a very humid climate and humidity rises in my Raching whenever I open it. So I have never had to add water in the year I've had it. However I do replace the water every 3 months (no filter to replace in mine). 1

Mine has a drawer at the bottom with a large blue filter in it, I literally pull the drawer out and go dump in sink. I then rinse the filter and drawer out with hydrogen peroxide about every two weeks now. I found when I was getting lazy on water changes that the water got a jelly like funk in it. My filter lasts about 6 months. Manufacturer says it could go a year. 1

Also gonna have to pay attention and see if the water gets a jelly like funk in it.
