This series seeks to explore whether a particular cigar is humidor worthy.:cigar:

Cost these days is an issue for many so let's see if we can highlight some absolute standouts.  This should particularly assist those new to the cigar world.

To be fair, most of the cigars we have featured to date have scored exceptionally well. Surprisingly well!

Scoring is: 1-3 (Poor)   4-6 (Average to good)   7-10  (very good to excellent)  Use the Poll.

You are more than free to comment away ;)

Today and tomorrow, two cigars that compete head to head in the same segment. The Hoyo de Monterrey Petit Robusto and the Montecrtisto Petit Edmundo. Today we start with the Hoyo de Monterrey Petit Robusto.

I am a fan of both. Let's go a little deeper into the weeds.

Outside of the poll, which do you prefer and why? Let us know in this thread ;)

Love this cigar. Bought a ton of them upon initial release. Fantastic blend on these little guys. They smoke pretty well fresh too. Haven’t smoked one in a while as I rarely reach for short cigars but now I’m jonesing for one. Haven’t smoked a petit Edmundo yet but I have some in my humidor so I’ll have to pull one of those out too now. The Edmundo is a favorite and I’ve yet to try it’s many newer vitolas.

I’ve just pulled the trigger on a box of these after hearing some good stuff about them and needing a restock on my short smokes / Petit Robustos. A change of Marca for me in this vitola, and one I am eager to chance.

I have some Monte PE's from a few years back. They stink of dark chocolate and are fantastic. Proper hench wee fellows.

My humidor has lacked Hoyo for some time. I know they are on the lighter side, but I’m looking forward to diversifying and giving them a fair craic. Will be good to have something a bit different than what I usually go for.

The Petit Robustos strike me as good value for money within the HdM brand also.

I'm down to one full box of 20s. Hate to crack it as it won't be replaced. I do think about it every time I open the cabinet. Always been a consistent cigar for me going back to OR.

What kind of legs do these have?

I've heard they can take on some nice depth when given time to run. Conversely, you hear lighter cigars flavours don't stick around for the long haul. They're good for 5-10 years, or optimised to be smoked prior? I understand a lot of it is preference, but if one was to generalise.

I’ve a 2016 box and they’re great. But I also enjoy aged cigars that are mid/light bodied (Epi2 as an example that I really like when old).

Petit Robustos would be great if they were and inch and a half longer.

I recently had a HdM Epicure de Luxe and thought the exact same thing.

In terms of Hoyo, I would like to have a Gordito or Robusto with the standard line Hoyo blend (not Epicure). Petit Robusto tastes good for a few puffs and then gets to bitter for me...I would spend the same money for a box of Hermoso No. 4s.

They're not bad, but they've just not really been my thing. I'm reaching for a Epi 1 or 2 before these. I still have half a box from their 2004 release.
