When you were a kid, you probably went to scouts and remember lighting some marshmallows around a campfire (or maybe not). Little did you know that one day these kids around you would be hosting a cigar night when they grew up! 😂

A whisper of anticipation floated through the air, the kind that signals an evening destined for camaraderie, relaxation and the gentle curl of aromatic smoke.

A Cigar Night was enjoyed by the Executive Board of the Long Beach Area Council, Scouting America, at the Lakewood Country Club on July 26.

The evening included Oscar, an expert in cigar etiquette, providing hand-rolled cigars. He prepped all the cigars and helped light them, with a lighter that looked like a mini antique blow torch.

The evening was dedicated to cigar aficionados and friends, a gathering devoted to the timeless pleasure of good company, fine cigars and a touch of old-world elegance at the classic Lakewood Country Club.

One can imagine the view from the Country Clubs’ al fresco patio, where the subtle glow of lanterns danced across comfortable armchairs.

“The centerpiece of the evening was, naturally, a fine cigar, hand-rolled just for each guest,” said organizer Bob Colle. “The night offered an opportunity to explore a variety of blends and aromas, guided by our passionate cigar host.

“We did a lot of reminiscing on our days involved in Scouting together,” added Colley, vice president of programs at Scouting America. “It was a brainstorming session, with a lot of enthusiasm as we discussed the upcoming fundraiser KAW (‘Kick Ass Woman’) awards coming up on Sept. 14 at Rancho Los Alamitos.”

The event celebrates the achievements of these woman, Colley said, all of whom have “made significant impacts in various fields.”

“The leadership and dedication of the women chosen for recognition this year are beacons of hope and progress for us all,” he said. “Kick Ass Women live their lives to the fullest and blaze trails we can follow.”

Honoring Six Women of Distinction, the 2025 class of KAW includes Dr. Jane Close Conoley, Dr. Geraldine Knatz, Shirley Wild, Cassandra Chase, Joanie Dixon and Karen Rindone. For more information, go to longbeachbsa.org/KAW.
