A movie star and comedian stopped by a Fayetteville cigar lounge June 12 to host an event promoting his cigar brand.

Actor and comedian Marlon Wayans enjoyed cigars and the company of his Fayetteville fans during his visit to The Airborne Cigar Emporium at 5500 Yadkin Road.

Wayans, 52, was in North Carolina for a scheduled comedy show at Raleigh Improv on June 14. The cigar lounge's daytime manager, Douglas Hinton, said after discovering Wayans would be in the area, he invited him to the shop to promote Wayans' cigar brand, Liga Tridante Cigars, which began in March 2024.

Wayans, a member of a family well-known for their comedic chops, is most famous for his comedic roles in the "Scary Movie" franchise, "White Chicks" and "Little Man." He is also known for his performance in the psychological drama "Requiem for a Dream." Wayans also stars in Jordan Peele's next thriller, "Him," which is set to release Sept. 19.

Hinton said that because the shop advertised Wayans' event, Fayetteville residents packed the cigar lounge in hopes of talking and taking pictures with the famous comedian.

“They were thrilled. He’s a nice guy, very personable," Hinton said. "Didn’t deny anyone pictures. He took pictures with everyone that approached him.”

Wayans' exclusive cigar ambassador, Sandra Mayo, said June 18 that several local cigar enthusiasts alerted her to the Fayetteville cigar lounge. Mayo travels with Wayans to help promote and market Liga Tridante Cigars.

"They said how beautiful it was, how beautiful the humidor was and how great the selection of cigars was," Mayo said. "That’s indicative of the type of cigar lounge that is worthy of carrying Liga Tridente.”

Mayo said that Wayans has organized Cut N Light's in different cities that he visits during his comedy tour. She said the purpose of the events is to "Expand the brand and to elevate and educate individuals on his brand.”

Hinton said that Wayans is the first celebrity to enter the cigar lounge since it opened in October, but they hope to bring more celebrities in soon.

“We are going to be doing that on a regular basis if we can,” Hinton said. “It’s definitely something to consider again because it was a popular event.”

Mayo said that Wayans hopes to return to The Airborne Cigar Emporium during his next visit to North Carolina.

"The reception was very, very welcoming, and he absolutely loved it, and they loved his cigar, too,” she said. “Who would not want to be in that type of atmosphere?”
