gehrig24 Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Why do some boxes come with the protective cardboard box? I have only received varnished boxes with the extra layer so I am not sure if this is common practice or if it is brand specific. Since the date codes are on the cardboard do you store the cigars as sent or remove the cardboard layer?
dragon Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 One reason for the outer cardboard box might simply be to protect the varnished box during transit, as well as a place to stamp the code on the boxes that are varnished completely. I always remove the outer cardboard box before putting the varnished box in the humidor, no reason to put cardboard boxes in the humidor.
El Presidente Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 All varnished boxes come with a form of protection. In the Cohiba line it is generally Wax Paper wrapping (which we remove to inspect the box. I think date codes for the boxes they are going to use external cartons in the packaging should be placed on the timber box. Even better, on the timber box and the ribbon encircling the cigars.

Do you think if you hand wrote the date code on the inside lid with say a sharpie type device that the odor of the ink would have an effect on the cigars? I realize you could probably do it on the outside but the varnish is just so nice. I am interested to see what most people do about remember dates and codes on these boxes.
Fatshotbud Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 I simply place a small folded 2x3" sheet of note paper with the cigars - the information is written in pencil. I may find out later this method sucks but that is all I am doing.
gehrig24 Posted February 9, 2006 Author Posted February 9, 2006 » I just smoke them. Cardboard and all? Would you describe the cardboard as having meat stock type characteristics?:-D
Brit Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 » I leave them in the cardboard box, place the cab and cardboard box in a plastic bag. I've done this for several years and haven't detected any problems. Alternatively, I would definitely not use a sharpie inside the box, PERHAPs pencil or ball point. Why not just write on the bottom of the box?
