JohnS Posted April 13 Posted April 13 J.C. Newman Home Run Humidors Coming This Summer April 10, 2025 - Charlie Minato Last year, J.C. Newman showed off its Tampa Smokers cigars and a humidor that was shaped like a home plate and made using wood from baseball bats. Earlier this month, the Tampa Smokers cigars began shipping nationwide and this summer, the Home Run Humidor will ship to stores. The humidors are made in Milwaukee by Jason LeGear, who also created The American All-Star Humidor, made using wood from the basketball court that hosted the 2011 NBA All-Star Game, for J.C. Newman. This project is done in a similar vein. Used bats—including those made out of American maple, birchwood and European beech wood—were sent to LeGear. J.C. Newman says that the bats were used in games, though league rules prevent Newman from disclosing which teams and players the bats came from. LeGear cut the bats down so that the wood could be used as the exterior of the humidor. The sides of the humidor feature walnut, which is said to mimic the stitches of a baseball. The inside of the humidor is made of Spanish cedar. Each humidor will come with 25 Tampa Smokers cigars, though the humidor is capable of holding up to 125 cigars. The MSRP is $2,000 per humidor. LeGear has made 50 humidors, which are each unique due to the different baseball bats. “Any opportunity to incorporate handcraft and engineering into art is a challenge I am excited to step up to the plate for,” said LeGear in a press release. “The Home Run Humidor is the pinnacle of functional humidor design for me as a craftsman. The biggest challenge has been rendering baseball bats, a notoriously round object, into flat veneer, and then meticulously hand-seaming each individual piece into a cohesive whole, as well as designing a functional humidor of a non-standard shape. Every baseball and cigar enthusiast will be thrilled to be a part of the unique history and celebration of America’s national pastime every time they open the Home Run Humidor to enjoy a cigar.” Earlier this week, LeGear announced that he was rebranding his humidor business under a new name, Milwaukee Humidor Co.
