CoRo TOU DIC ‘18 (RotR25)

Unexpected day off today, and rather than clean up the mess from 30mph winds last night, I decided to enjoy a moment with the illustrious, the oft-exquisite, the…sometimes disappointing, one and only CoRo. Will this one be Tyson in his prime, or Tyson vs Jake Paul...dull and confusing?

Wrapper is slightly rough for a CoRo, but Habanos will be Habanos. Medium shade of brown. Cold draw is absolutely divine, filled with nutmeg, sandalwood, and graham. Touch of clove. Light-up is lovely gingerbread spice and honey.

Going on, the beginning is showing me notes of fig and raisin, on a nice palette of wood and nuts. Extremely long finish, full of agave sweetness. Heading toward the 2nd act, getting so much cashew cream it is just extraordinary. Not trying to be hyperbolic, but so far this is the best CoRo I’ve had in a long time.

The second third is divine. Soft graham cracker with crisp caramel edges. Strength is holding right around medium. Not one complaint about burn or construction. So far a winner! Nearly to the final act, getting some roasted marshmallow along for the ride. Just need some milk chocolate and we’ll have a s’mores party.

Forgive the dry, leathery hands, and the need for a manicure.

The last third drives away from desert sweetness, more into woodsy and even a little savory. There is a great bed of hickory smoke, with maybe a little dried fruit on top, or perhaps its apricot. Also a touch of forest floor. Driving toward the finish line, a little disappointing. Tasting mostly clove, but too much. Touches of roasted cashew, and marshmallow tries to pop its head up here and there, somewhat like the squirrels by my fence line. I know they’re there, but they’re trying to hide from me.

No bitterness at all until nearly the nub, and then only minimal. I wouldn’t say this is ear-biting Tyson, but also not the disappointing recent bout with Paul. I’m gonna put this right there with Tyson slugging Ed Helms in The Hangover.

I have a 16 lying around, almost grabbed it but I wanted to see how my 18’s were doing.
