riderpride Posted February 25 Posted February 25 No, not a cocktail. Due to significant flooding in the region in the last few weeks, the Kentucky River took out a chunk of the Buffalo Trace Distillery's property earlier today. There were no injuries, and the damage was limited to a temporary office building and a storage container. Buffalo Trace is known for it's eponymous bourbon as well as the highly regarded Pappy Van Winkle, Stagg, and Blanton's amongst others. Despite shutting down briefly a few days ago for flooding, it remains America's longest continually operating distillery as Prohibition couldn't even close it. Production is not believed to be impacted. Cheers! https://www.courier-journal.com/story/news/local/2025/02/24/buffalo-trace-distillery-mudslide-no-injuries-reported-in-frankfort/80047080007/ 1
Wlu1988 Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Terrible to hear but I did also find this recent article about the waning steam of bourbon boom interesting. I have noticed considerable stocks on the shelves in my neck of the woods for Buffalo Trace and Weller Special Reserve during the past 2 or so months. Hopefully some of the more aged blends will follow. The link to the WSJ article is archived on archive.org. I'm not sure why the thumbnail won’t show up. https://archive.ph/ArS6E 1
Islandboy Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Damn, I was hoping "Buffalo Trace Landslide" was a reference to a glut in production resulting in prices rapidly sliding off a cliff. A buddy in Oregon, where liquor is sold at msrp, just scored a bottle of Pappy 10 year...for $123. It’s probably not even worth that. That same bottle is sitting on a shelf here (where it will stay) for $1,800. Time to let the stuff linger there.
