Ireland to Join the Cigar Smoking World Championship Circuit

February 21, 2025 - Simon Lundh

The Cigar Smoking World Championship is coming to Ireland for the first time. The national qualification round will be organized in collaboration with The Decent Cigar Emporium in Dublin. The capital’s “premier destination for premium cigars has long been a hub for passionate aficionados”, it says on the CSWC website, and now it will be the venue for the inaugural CSWC event in Ireland.

“The Decent Cigar Emporium has been at the forefront of Ireland’s cigar scene, offering a carefully curated selection of hand-rolled cigars and fostering a strong community of cigar enthusiasts,” CSWC founder, Marko Bilic, says. “Now, they’re taking things to the next level, offering local competitors the opportunity to experience the CSWC excitement and share their results on international stage.”

Barry Joyce and Garry Kelly at The Decent Cigar Emporium are equally enthusiastic.

“We are incredibly proud to be hosting CSWC in Ireland for the first time,” owner, Barry Joyce, says. “This is a historic moment for the Irish cigar community, and we can’t wait to welcome competitors and spectators to experience the excitement, camaraderie, and passion that CSWC embodies.”

The event promises an intense and thrilling competition, followed by an exclusive celebration of cigar culture, complete with fine drinks, networking opportunities, and an atmosphere worthy of the occasion, according to the CSWC website. And the winner will of course earn a place in the grand finale, joining champions from around the world in the ultimate test of slow-smoking mastery.

Fair play to the lads for pushing things (christ knows we need someone to do it here), but the weather is such a drawback at this time of the year. I find it difficult to coordinate a comfortable smoke with say three or four pals. I can think of only two venues that might book this for 20+ people and it would go well.
