Popular Post JohnS Posted October 26, 2024 Popular Post Posted October 26, 2024 Peabody, Mass. Rejects Generational Tobacco Ban October 25, 2024 - Charlie Minato A generational tobacco ban will not be coming to Peabody, Mass., at least not now. Yesterday, the Peabody Board of Health voted 2-1 to table, for at least one year, a proposed generational tobacco ban. This move comes after Brookline, Mass.—a Boston suburb—passed a similar ban and successfully defended the law from a court challenge. A generational tobacco ban limits anyone born after a certain date from purchasing tobacco products. In the case of the proposed Peabody ban, that date would have been Jan. 1, 2004. Anyone born before 2004 would have been subject to the existing regulations—it requires people to be at least 21-years-old—and anyone born in 2004 or after would be banned from ever purchasing tobacco products in Peabody. After the successful implementation of Tobacco 21, generational tobacco bans are the next step for anti-tobacco activists. According to Patch.com, four Peabody City Councilors were opposed to the ban. Peabody is located in the North Shore, in the northeast part of the state. It has a population around 50,000 people. Timothy556 Posted October 27, 2024 Posted October 27, 2024 Peabody is a 20 minute drive to New Hampshire where there is no sales tax (including tobacco). The city knows they would lose revenue. 1
BrightonCorgi Posted October 29, 2024 Posted October 29, 2024 In MA, hashish is legal, hookah tobacco is illegal. 1
