unaslob Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 For number two I present a well constructed 2022 Petit Belicoso. This is a well constructed shorter cigar. It has a nice Colorado wrapper. This has been stored at 62:62 for the last year and dry box for one day. I choose a VCut. The dry draw was quite easy. There was going to be no plugging today. In cedar as well as some slight vanilla tones were noted on the dry drop. This is going to be a good stick. Lighting was easy with the soft flame, done slowly to help prevent some early canoeing with such an easy draw. The first third presented some lovely baking spice and slight cinnamon quality. There were some hints of leather popping through, which getting to the halfway point seem to take over. Along with some slightly floral notes. Because of the relative ease of the draw I had to take care and not pull particularly hard on this. This allowed for a fair amount of smoke production. Getting to the last third there is a bit of sharpness and some overheating which gave some slight sour tones and when allowed to cool down the leather was found again, but the floral and vanilla oats were almost gone. This is the first cigar I’ve taken out of this box and the first time I’ve had this marca, although from this company, I have thoroughly enjoyed many different of their sticks so far. nicotine content felt to be mild with the strength of cigar rating at about a medium. This would not pair well with alcohol, as I think it would be overpowered by the alcohol. It also would not serve well as the second stick. It does require something sweeter on your pallet, which I was prepared for as I once again paired with root beer. I think with time and aging the cigar is going to find some more balance and blend the notes together a bit better and may develop a bit more flavor, but only time will tell. I realize on my last post I made no mention of the book. I am currently in my first circumnavigation of the Aubrey-Marturin series. The ninth of the series, treason’s Harbor is starting off where the Ionian mission left off in Malta with Jack and Stephen heading off to the Red Sea with a clear mission. Time and sticks will tell how they fare. As far as ranking, keeping in the naval theme, I will rank this as a middling second rate ship of the line. 2
