Popular Post Puros Y Vino Posted August 6, 2024 Popular Post Posted August 6, 2024 I've had about 3 stinky ashtrays over the years. One I used until it rusted out. Another I gifted my brother. It probably met the same fate. And another is a chrome, stand up unit. I've used them all outside and probably neglected them TBH. The tabletop unit sat outside all seasons and eventually had to be tossed. The standup one was doing great! No signs of rust...until, it came apart all at once. The inside nuts and bolts rusted out and severed the layers. The exterior chrome parts though, we still in great condition. Disclaimer: This post isn't a critique about Stinky's quality control, etc. They make cool stuff. I probably abused them more than they should have been. Back to the Re-Animation!! I asked my cousin to source a long bolt I could thread through the entire body along with some nuts and washers. He came through nicely. Today I took some time and put it together. Here it is in pieces. The bolt is in the top right. The short piece just left of center is the ash remover (see below for details). In the end that piece couldn't be affixed. First step was getting the base setup. Next step was the first tube. I fastened each section under/over with nut and washer combo. Up next is what I'll call the "shelf". In the original assembly, the pieces here are what "failed" They were fixed into the tubes but the rust over time separated them. I removed the original bolts and put them in place with new nuts and washers. And the is the final result. It is not 100% straight but it is sturdy. I'm hoping it will stay in place nicely. With the one single bolt running through the entire body it is far better off IMO. I couldn't re-attach the ash clearing piece but since I cut the bolt to roughly the same height as that piece, it works just the same. 8
Cigar Surgeon Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 @Puros Y Vino I wonder if you could attach a strong magnet to the bottom of the ash knocker instead of using a bolt? 3
Squarehead Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 Looks nice Frank. Mine is still like brand new but I don't use it either except for storing cutters and lighters. The other one I had I gave to my son and who knows what happened to it? 1
