El Presidente Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 I was introduced to Old Monk Rum in the mid 90's with my Sindhi mate and business partner at the time, Manu. Mind you, black label and soda (tall glass) was his go to, but I would always run into this rum in his event circles )nostalgia) and was pleasantly surprised how this super cheap (at the time) rum, was far better than anything we were producing at the time in the land of Oz. I came across this tasting vid. We must have a host of members who have run into this rum on their subcontinent travels but I know it is now sold in the US and Oz. That doesn't mean I would buy it........maybe one or two bottles to bring back some superb memories

Çnote Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 I used to sell a fair amount of this when I worked in liquor retail, mostly to expats looking for a taste of home. It certainly works, but you may not enjoy the morning after. 1
BrightonCorgi Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 I am big fan of Old Monk. In India or here where it's sold at many B&M's. It's certainly not on par with Central America's best dark rums. The price is a giveaway and perfectly acceptable by itself or in rum drinks. My state is historically and still are big rum drinkers. For Massholes, the Scorpion Bowl is State official cocktail. Make it with Old Monk and it's Uber for the ride home. 1
