El Presidente Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 Melbourne Cup Day and effectively a public holiday after 11am today across the country ....except for Victoria where it is an actual public holiday. Melbourne Cup is more than a horse race. It is a race that encapsulates all that is great about this country.......gambling and booze Aussies are born gamblers. Let's face it, someone in your Aussie family history took a risk to emigrate to " Satan's Summerhouse" and so "taking a risk" is in your DNA. The drinking side is even less complicated to explain. Your relatives landed, had one look around........and reached for a bottle. The deck lads arrive at 11am today. We practice fast betting.....every race in the country (about 80) over the space of 5 hours. If we need a "hail Mary" play to pull us out of the fire, we will start on the Asian races come early evening. It is the only day of the year that I truly gamble. Dee, Ben, Tom and Becky should thank me 1 2
MagicalBikeRide Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 And naturally in an event on the other side of the world, but related to drinking and gambling, the Irish have not only travelled, but have the hot favourite and third favourite (Vauban and Absurde - both with Willie Mullins). Good luck on the deck 🤞 2
