Popular Post david9985 Posted October 2, 2023 Popular Post Posted October 2, 2023 The call from FOH to post a review while watching a sporting event was like a red rag to a bull. It was unseasonably warm in England last Friday, I was WFH and it also happened to be the opening day of the Ryder Cup. I earmarked a slot for lunchtime smoke and wanted something good. Time was also an important factor so I plumped for the HUHC with a mind that I would return for a Canon later on that evening! I rarely do this during the working day so the novelty added to the enjoyment of this. And I love the Ryder Cup. I'd listened to Europe go 4-0 up in Friday morning foursomes on the radio so was chomping both for a quality cigar and to see some of the golf. I'm a big fan of HUHCs, so reliably and tasty and filling a gap when time is short. Having said that, I get a good 45mins out of them without trying. This was highly typical of solid examples of these: slight resistance on the draw, grey ash and a coffee-ish, bread-ish typical Upmann profile. This had a little but of peppery-ness to it as well, in a pleasant way. It was wonderful to relax in the middle of the day like this, especially in late September. Golf was the main focus here but another reliable shift from this humi staple! Appetite whetted I placed the Canon beside me as I completed the afternoon's work (with the radio on). The smell would periodically reach me and bring a smile at the thought of Round 2 in the evening. When the time came, the day's play at the Ryder Cup was done so I joined my wife and watched a couple of episodes of Blue Lights (BBC) while enjoying what was my 5th Canon. Each of the preceding efforts has been better than the last and matched the experience as described by Rob and Hamlet and indeed a bulk of FOHers. This example opened well and while I have got a sweet opening before, this is the first one that gave honey. Pronounced and defined honey! I was pleased but unlike the others, this didn't progress through chocolate and on to leather... The honey persisted until about half way and then dwindled out. There wasn't a lot else going on flavourwise. It was certainly pleasant and construction and burn were trustworthy, it was just that the 'journey' that I had been on previously was missing. Still a good smoke and a great way to finish a working week. Hat's off to the Canon The following 2 days of Ryder Cup action weren't too bad either. 7
