TacoSauce Posted August 14, 2023 Posted August 14, 2023 A question for those who have knowledge of how the factories in Cuba work: What do the factories do with all the cut, scrap tobacco produced during the manufacture of long-filler cigars? My first guess is that it is collected and then used to make short-filler cigars. However, given the limited number of short-filler Cuban marcas, I can't see how this would work. For example, short-filler cigars produced from the scraps at the Cohiba factory are going to be very different from short-filler sticks made at a factory rolling mostly Bolivar. Are all the scraps combined and shipped to some central "Scraps Factory" where they are all mixed together? Or something else?
Corylax18 Posted August 14, 2023 Posted August 14, 2023 Here is a link to a thread that answers this, with another thread linked within that also answers it. 1. There is no "cohiba" factory or "bolivar" factory. El Laguito is certainly the flagship factory and is adorned with plenty of Cohiba signage, but they roll lots of other cigars. Its the same with all the other factories across the island. They all roll lots of different labels and vitolas. 2. The trimmings mostly go into cigarettes. I have tried many of the cuban made cigarettes and they are STRONG. Many are stilled rolled with out filters as well. 2 2

Thank you! I swear I did a couple of forum searches before I posted and examined the first page of hits, but I didn't come across either of those threads -- poor selection of search words? Probably. Popular Post rjake100 Posted August 14, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 14, 2023 Use google to search this forum. It is much easier in my opinion. Just end each query with site:www.fohcigars.com. For example to find non plus you would search for this in Google. non plus site:www.fohcigars.com 7

Related forum search trivia: every try to search for "non plus" in the forum? It is forbidden! Don't worry about it. The search function can be a bit wonky on the site. I think the reason you can't search for "non plus" is because all search terms must be at least 4 characters. That also prevents any substantive search of box codes on the site. It can be quite frustrating. As @rjake100 said, it can often be easier to find things on the site using a google search. 3
