Popular Post Tdm_86 Posted June 25, 2023 Popular Post Posted June 25, 2023 Have been wanting to try this RAS, as it’s been a long time since I’ve had one. Paired with a drop of Weller 12 and a glass of ice water as it’s a hot one today. Pre-light A pretty good looking cigar, nice golden colored wrapper. Smells very pleasant, quite a sweet and rich aroma off the wrapper. The thing seems nicely constructed, but pretty packed near the head. Decided to straight cut it to maximize it’s chances. Seems that’s paid off, the cold draw has the perfect amount of resistance and tastes of sweet tobacco. First third Really good opening, the draw is very sweet and on the palate there is a musty quality that I associate with aged tobacco. The flavor is fruity, I wouldn’t say stewed fruit like I find in aged RASS, but more vibrant and sweeter like a plum liqueur. Great start. The burn is sharp and excellent. Towards the end of the first third the musty note goes away as the flavors deepen. Second third The draw flavor is still very sweet, but also a bit of cinnamon now. The palate is awash with that plum flavor that is now richer and backed by a floral sweetness. On the retrohale I can sometimes detect something resembling almond. The burn is still spot on. Final third As I move closer to the band(s), the flavors get darker. The draw is oaky now, but still sweet. On the palate there’s a sweetened coffee note, but gone is the fruit from the palate. The retrohale gives me raisins and toasted almond in spades. I’m not usually a ‘nubber’, but this thing is going on the end of my PerfecDraw to get every last bit out of it. The draw starts to get minty as the smoke gets hot. Conclusion Amazing experience. Flavorful, great burn. I remembered these as being much lighter and a little uneventful, not the case with this example. My smoke time was 1 hr 35 mins. You don’t hear too much about RAS, what has the general experience been with these recent production variants for you all? 94/100 for me on this example 14
hrs1 Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 Just smoked one with the same box code - great smoke! I couldn't articulate exactly how the sweetness in this RAS was different from the recent production RASS I've been smoking, but think you nailed it with the plum liqueur note. I think these will age well, but it's going be a struggle when they're smoking so good now. Great review 🥂 1
