Montecristo No. 1 BOE MAY 19 (MRW)

With a holiday in the UK today, my morning is mercifully less meeting heavy than normal.   Great opportunity to grab a cold brew, spark up a longer smoke time vitola, take a few calls and catch up on emails.   

Monte 1 it is.   This box has been treating me well, consistently producing low 90 point cigars.  The best ones so far had some cinnamon and citrus around the edges of the cocoa, cream and coffee core.

Quickly grab one with a nice barnyard aroma.  Give it a punch.  Get a bit of cocoa with a tight draw.  Luckily the issue is right around the band and the Perfecdraw quickly does the trick.

 

 

It starts off medium bodied with cocoa, cream and coffee.  But, it's a bit less rich flavor wise than I'd like.  Burn is great with ash falling off at the end of the first third.

 

 

The flavor intensity picks up progressively to medium/medium-plus in the second third.   The cocoa and cream isn't lush and there's no cinnamon or citrus.   Still good though.

 

 

Cocoa and cream start to fade in the final third with a woodiness taking their place.  I remove the band and the wrapper cracks, signaling a quick decline into a hot mess. That's it for this one.

A bit disappointing compared to other examples from this box.  But, it's still a solid 88 point, 1 3/4 hour smoke and a great morning coffee companion.

Probably something to do with your profile pic, but I've always had you down as a Yank in my mind!

I've not actually smoked one yet but I've got a PSP box that needs sampling before the summer is out.

You weren't wrong - just have the pleasure of working with some Brits   The bank holiday today freed me from a few meetings today with UK colleagues.

Would be great to hear how your PSP box is smoking when you start sampling.  Received my first PSP box of Monte 1s a few weeks ago (TRS OCT 21) - they look and smell delicious!

I got GEL OCT 21, they look great.
