Popular Post El Presidente
Very good article that highlights the challenges faced by Cuba's farmers. “While the workers under its command strive to maintain a steady supply of fresh vegetables, two blocks away a currency store operated by the state-owned Cimex corporation is selling imported spinach, beans and carrots,” the newspaper quotes Jesús Gonzalez as saying. Gonzalez runs an organic farm in Pinar del Rio called Las Flores and insists he is willing to supply stores like this but none have shown any interest. https://havanatimes.org/features/cuban-dollar-stores-sell-imported-vegetables-why/ 2
riderpride
Blame the farmers for not having an understanding of capitalism? Sounds like the gov't screws the pooch again. How bout someone with access to capital can take up a wholesaler role and look after packaging. Oh wait, the government screws the farmer that way too. Workers party my butt lol Cheers
DaBoot
As a farmer, Interviewed by a government newspaper about your relationship with the government…🤔🤔 think I would put the blame on myself also. Proper packaging and storage is key, without this the crop is garbage in a week. And without freezers, they cannot even store fruit or veggies that are ripe, damaged, or starting to turn bad for sale.. a hurdle that must be overcome for sustaining the farmers.
