Popular Post sjbliven
I received this 10 count box back in November. Upon opening the box, it was clear these boxes were easy PSP designees, as the beautiful dark wrappers had sheen to spare, and the Intoxicating barnyard aroma was immediately apparent even as I removed the box from the bubble wrap. This particular cigar has been in my crosshairs several times (for no particular reason since they are quite consistent throughout), but each time I pull it out, I pardon it after 15 or 20 minutes of holding and smelling it (the box was taken out of consideration of being gifted after that of course!). Pre-light: I’m wondering if I am jumping the gun, as once you crack a 10 count box, there are only 9 left! Nah! Perfect construction. Montecristo lineage is unmistakable, and this cigar is oozing rich barnyard-chocolate goodness. Chose a small V cut, and have a 96 point draw (never rated a draw, but what the hell, haha), as It could have maybe just a touch more resistance, but is close to perfect. The cold draw actually has a touch of spice, with cocoa dusted graham cracker. Promising. First third: I’m trying to remember which chocolate cereal it reminds me of… It’s the Count Chocula one. Tons of smoke. Rich and classy on the nose, but light on the palate. Under medium bodied. The aroma of the smoke takes me back to my first Monte 2, which I was told was picked from a partial box that was headed from the Vancouver Cigar Company to Tim Robbins. I’m at a 91 with promise. Second third: More of the same flavor profile chocolate cereal, but the richness is beginning to pick up. I do run into a few burn issues with the medium thick wrapper. Touch ups are easy, and straighten everything out. Retro is smooth. Smoke is silky, but still shy of full bodied. Have I said this bad boy is classy? Up to a 92-93 Final third: Some burn issues persist, but it’s not a huge problem. An earthy essence is absolutely part of the now fading chocolate. Strength picked up out of nowhere! The smoke is still plentiful, and just a pleasure to bask in. Body picks up a touch, but still in the medium+ range. There is more of a savory graham cracker thing going on now, with a single puff giving me some saltiness. Overall: It’s a solid 92. 7 months stored at 65% humidity maybe wasn’t quite long enough, as I don’t think the small burn issues I had were due to construction, but more due to the relatively thick wrapper. I will wait to revisit this box for 6-12 months.
winelover
Nice review from a fellow Monte 2 lover. I feel like these are slightly under appreciated in cigar circles but great sticks in my experience.
