Popular Post Puros Y Vino Posted May 17, 2022 Popular Post Posted May 17, 2022 I continue to be impressed by some of my findings on that site. While google and other search engines have probably helped many a member here look up something cigar related, I don't notice many entries being pulled up from historical periodicals and books. But searching from books.google.com directly, does yield some interesting results. Entire books, magazines, ads, etc. My most recent find was a UK Publication from 1896 just called "Tobacco". It appears to be a collection of periodicals from the era. It's loaded with ads of various Cuban marcas, suppliers of packaging, cigar making machines, etc. There are also articles and news about various people in the industry. Their dealings, personal lives, deaths, etc. It comes in at a whopping 1477 pages! A lot of the ads are repeats, as this is a compendium. But over time, you do notice newer ads. Which makes sense. Try you luck there and see what you can find. Sometimes you can download entire PDF's of books and magazines. Sometimes you just get a snippet that at the very least you can screenshot. Some tidbits. Here's the world's possible first reference to an LCDH. A pre-emptive statement from the Frankau house? Early La Corona ad Ad for cigar making machine. I wonder if any of these have survived? Tobacco Perfume anyone? 4 5
MrBirdman Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 “This machine turns out HAND-MADE cigars.” Love it 🙂. Thank you @Puros Y Vino! 1
Puros Y Vino Posted May 17, 2022 Author Posted May 17, 2022 Cool snippet mentioning Partagas. We actually have a Bances cigar factory in Toronto. Some Havana offerings in the UK. 2
