Ramon Allones King of North GEM FEB 2021 (MRSCW#2)

I haven’t read many reviews of the Ramon Allones King of North Edición Regional Nordico-Baltico. It’s a Robusto Extra size measuring 50 x 155mm. It’s a pleasant size to hold and it feels like a great afternoon cigar.

Reading up on it, I see that Ramon Allones have released at least one special edition every year since 2005. Pretty consistent track record. They come in numbered semi boîte nature boxes of 10 cigars and 6,000 boxes have been produced. 

The cut is smooth, and it has a snug but good draw. Initial aromas of barnyard and earth to it. The first few puffs make me this is going to be a Medium or medium plus cigar. Let’s see how that develops.

First Third: It’s a good cigar with a simple lunch, the red Montepulciano wine pairs well. I really do like the size of this one – it feels just right to hold. Notes of Sweetness, Earth, Wood and the blend is pleasant.

This particular one belongs to the Regional Edition Series for Nordic and Baltic countries, the other ones being Northern Lights (2009) and North Star (2017) and from trying the others, I do agree that this is the current King of North.

Second third, continues with dark, rich, earthy tones, and that tobacco flavor I usually associate with Ramon Allones, fairly powerful. Will time help with that? Definitely.

Almost done, 80 minutes in total that I could have stretched, surely. Overall, pleasant – good flavors and power to it without hard edges. My only criticism is that it’s a fairly generic and “vanilla” tasting cigar. I don’t think it’s meant to impress. It is young cigar admittedly, but if the band was removed, and without measuring the size, I would think a fair amount would guess it’s an E2, La Fuerza, or a Hoyo Rio Seco/San Juan in the regular Habanos lineup.

Last third, cigar has been good and strong. Bold, earthy and woody - Vikingo would have been a good name.
