Popular Post Meklown Posted July 26, 2021 Popular Post Posted July 26, 2021 First off, apologies for the lack of box code - my Dad brought this single over without the box. This stick was smoked a week ago during the season closer (horse racing). After the first OYMRW, I knew a second review week was coming so I took notes on a larger marque as I smoke the larger sticks much less frequently. If interested, previous review below - As noted previously, I am admittedly a slow smoker. For a DC, I need to know I have a minimum of 3h to slowly savour. The cigar has a little bit of its wrapper hanging loose. Not a big deal, it doesn't affect the smoke at all. I just need to be careful not to accidentally brush more leaf off. Pre-light draw was just about right. Cedar and cinnamon. Start time: right after the second race, 7:30pm. Drink pairing, Glenfiddich 21 (rum cask finish) In the first third, my immediate thought was that this cigar was really tasty. Cedar was present. Baking spices. Incense. And a layer of cream to bind them together. This is a cigar that is a very good example of medium-full flavour, but light-medium strength. It's one of those concepts that are more difficult to grasp for beginners. 1 hour in. Race 4. Here comes the horse that I'd tipped to improve on its previous run. However, it's going out at huge odds (200x for the win). I pick another horse and put a tenner on a quinella place. The cigar? Chugging along brilliantly. The cedar and incense have become more woody. Oak, oak spice, white chocolate. Very nice. The whisky was a good pairing. It was vibrant, and hard to believe that it's a 21 year old. Fruity, honeyed sweetness. Strength just under medium. Off the horses go and the two I picked were doing well.... and came in in a 1-2 finish. Why oh why did I not place a bet on a quinella? Nevertheless, healthy winnings. I had been down the entire season but this one race pulled me back to nearly even. Maybe I should have a Hoyo DC every raceday? The strength of the cigar increases ever so slightly towards the final inches. It becomes juicy now .. canned peaches? White chocolates persist. The cigar burns past the dodgy wrapper area with minimal fuss. No longer paying close attention to the races. Random tenners here and there but I am done for the season. Smoked the DC to the nub. It was a brilliant stick, a giant but never boring you. Draw remained fine throughout, strength never going past medium. Light never went out unless it was my fault (too long between puffs). I wish I have more time to have sticks like these more often. Finally put it down at 10:45pm. 89/100. 3h15m of deliciousness. 12
